C-land night striper 5/23/06

Went with a guide Tues night and were put on big fish. However, we were unable to keep them hooked up. We had 2 30# fish on the hook and both came unbuttoned, one after we had next to the boat twice but could not net. We boated two smaller fish and had 12 come off after a brief fight. Guide said all the fish were short biting the lures. We stayed in the creeks, bait came up around 12:30 am CST and the fish came up about 2am. Bait and fish were gone by 4am. He said he has a couple open slots, due to cancellations, before the bite is over in a couple weeks. I have fished with them before and they are a class act.

Since I was with a guide, I won't give exact spots, but we were in the creek that has the Alligator marinas. Both guides said that they have not had any luck finding bait/fish on the main lake. They have been fishing whatever creek in the Jamestown area that seems most active on a given night. They said that the fish will be hot in one creek tonight and a totally different creek tomorrow. The key is to pick an area and listen for bait "popping", the more the better. If the bait is real active, the fish will eventually show up. Also, if a boat wake washes on an active bank, the bait/fish will go down until the water calms. However, they said everything will normally come back as long as the bank is not being constantly hammered. Good luck.

Yeah, What Striper81 said. For what it's worth, I went Tues. night, put in at Falls Creek, started catching fish about 1130 on a red/white sliver against rock wall. Biggest 14lb. Caught my first cat on a sliver too! No walleye though.
