    nolin 6/27 6/28

Fished Nolin Saturday morning, didn't do very well, water was muddy at wax but we put in at the private ramp on long fall and the water looked good, just a slight stain. Fished top water, c-rigs, spinnerbaits and a 4 in. worm. Only caught two from about 6:30 am to 12:00. Pulled the boat out and went to relax for a few hours, eat and then go back out. at 7:00 PM we drove over to the state ramp. The water had come up quite a bit from earlier in the day. Fished ledges and caught MANY bass all on the 4 in. worm. The bite held out pretty well for us until it got really good and dark then tapered off quickly. We pulled the boat out at around 2:00 AM. Sunday, we didn't fish in the morning, didn't want to fight the boat traffic. Put in at Dog creek. Cought 2 on a spinnerbait, saw a couple caught on texas rigged worms, but once it got dark we couldn't get a bite! WE called it a night at around 12:00 am. ANyway, we had fun. I'll spend the next week getting ready for my honeymoon on Dale! Wish me luck!

Fished Nolin both Sunday and Monday as well. I agree fishing was tough. Put in at Dog Creek. The fish I caught were in Long Fall. Caught some on topwater Sunday late in the day and Monday the few I caught were on a black/blue jig using 2 plastic trailers on the wide gap hook. First time I've done that one but it slowed the fall of the bait and seemed to work. Only had 1 keeper out of the bunch.

    My Nolin report

Water was very muddy from Wax and on up river. Bite was tough as well. Caught 6 fish, 3 keepers on c-rig fishing ledges. No top water bite. Caught a 2 lb walleye on crankbait.Caught the bigger fish on 8 and 10 inch worms. Found a great ledge just tough fishing it with the boat traffic. Caught all my fish from 11-2 in the afternoon. One 4lber, the other two keepers were right around 3lbs. The fish were definately stacked up on this ledge, about 8ft then dropped to 17 ft. Trying to teach myself this ledge fishing concept, and it worked out pretty good.... Planned on fishing all weekend, but after Sat. morning my boat decided to give me some problems so off to the shop it goes and I am stuck without a boat the rest of the weekend. But did have a nice time relaxing.

    Any Barren reports??

    RE: My Nolin report

Well it was running fine Saturday morning. Docked up, went up for lunch and came down and she wouldn't go over 2500 rpm's, not past 10mph. The it started sputterring. So either I need some new spark plugs or clean the carberator. I am no boat mechanic but will try to start out simple and cheap. Can you put carberator cleaner in a boat?

The ledge I was fishing was off between ponderosa and rock creek, not the main lake.

    RE: My Nolin report

Eric, thanks....sounds like it must've been in a bay off the main lake since that's all that's between Rock & Ponderosa.

You got a lot of courage with all the traffic that was out there on Saturday!

On your motor trouble, someone else mentioned the stator as a possible problem. I'm no mechanic either, but from what I know, the stator gone bad would cause your cranking battery to not charge and eventually it would draw down to nothing.

    RE: My Nolin report

That sounds like it could be electrical to me.

I had something VERY similar happen once. I forget the terminoligy, but there's an electrical component that kicks in somewhere around 2,000 rpm. (I think it's called the stator). It basically doubles your spark to kick you on into the higher RPM power band. If this component goes out, you top out somewhere around 2,000 rpms with a load. If there's no load on the prop, it will go ahead and rev up to 6,000

    RE: My Nolin report

Eric, I had some boat problems while at Nolin this weekend as well that put a dent in my fishing time (actually trolling motor problem). With all the influx of water (it came up over 7 feet in 4 days) and floating debris, holiday boat traffic, etc. I said to hell with it and did a lot of relaxing as well. Caught only a few short fish on c-rigs and crawfish crankbait in 10-15 feet on ledges/drops in the creeks. Didn't catch any fish on the main lake, but I didn't fish it much either.

Don't want your spot, but was the ledge you were fishing on the main lake or up above Wax in the river or in a creek?

    Thanks.

Hey old man, I was around your place Sunday, all I had with me was your cell number. I tried to fish for several hours and gave up went home both the boat and I wet top to bottom. At one time I stopped at the mouth of dog creek I counted 47 boats at one time. Man it was crazy on the water. I have never seen it that bad.

    RE: My Nolin report

Yeah man...you saw where my boat was parked. High water and traffic was too much for me. I decided to ride in the pontoon and hang out in the water instead. I get plenty more weekends down there and I know they'll be less stirred up. Probably will fish this weekend as a matter of fact. Should be down on Friday evening. I'll let you know.

    Nice report Dave, sounds fun.

Good luck next week with the wedding and the honeymoon. I bet there won't be a lot of night fishing there. LOL
