    Kentucky/Barkley Stren Series

Looking through day 1 results on the pairings tab of the website, you can see what guys are fishing ledges and what guys are not. Almost every boater who weighed in a sack of fish yesterday, the co-angler paired up with them did the same. Pretty interesting tid bit I picked up...

It would be very hard to block someone when fishing ledges. It is possible that the co-angler doesn't know how to fish ledges himself.

According to the pairings from yesterday Mike Auten's co-angler yesterday had 5 fish that weighed 15-11 and is currently in 7th place going in to today.

Now the guy he has today only had 2 fish yesterday.

A boater can definitely block a co-angler when fishing ledges. Boat position is key and the whole "imaginary line" courtesy BS can come into play. Co-angler success usually depends on the boater's attitude. I've fished with some great boaters, usually former co-anglers, and I've fished with some complete jerks. Usually the complete jerks do not do very well because they think they know it all.......and that is their downfall! As competitors in this sport, it is so vital to always be open to new strategies, be able to learn from others, practice good sportsmanship, and uphold high standards as professionals. Those who do not practice these ideals shall not expect to progress as a good fisherman.

Fishing as a co-angler is all about learning. I've watched boaters make mistakes and have seen holes in their strategies time and time again. I've learned more from boaters' mistakes than I have their success. You can't expect to win much being a co-angler and the frustrating days come more frequent than the good days. However, I consider it as "paying my dues" and with the experience and knowledge I've gained, you just wait until I become a boater after college graduation!!!! :)

OK NON-BOATERS when are you guys going to quit taking that crap from the "jerks" . You have as much right to fish as the guy in the front of the boat. IF the boater is blocking then protest, don't just say that is the nature of the beast. All it would take is ONE co-angler to protest their partners catch and that will end that crap. Most of the blockers are the young punks who think they are the only ones on the water.
I know of one case in the recent FLW on Lake Cumberland a pro had 35 fish marked in his gps on the bed . He told his co-angler if he would help hold the boat until he caught his 5 he would let him catch 2 or 3. AS soon as the guy caught his 5 he put his 101 lbs pound thrust on hi and got up on the bank looking for the next day . They co-angler never made a cast ,he said he "trolled" a worm behind the boat all day.
DON'T CARE who or what that is a bunch of crap. I hear these stories from co anglers all the time. The pros say well we pay the big entry and have all the risk.YES and that is why your pay back is two to three times the co-angler's

Oh trust me if I ever had a boater pull that kind of crap I'll be casting right over his shoulder. I understand their argument but we've have paid entry fees as well and have just as much right to fish.

Actually, I think it would be great if a co'angler would pull what Mark Davis did to Dean Rojas on the Ultimate Match fishing when he had him trapped against the bank. Just start rocking the crap out of the boat. Big Mark almost had the Triton dipping water.

If it ever happens I'll be the first to post the boaters name and what association we were fishing as well as filing a protest with the tournament circuit.

Charlie is right. Ive fished alot of ledges from the front of the boat and I cant see how I could prevent my co angler from fishing the same ledge, just my experiences. Jrod

Always remind your boater that you don't have to initial by his name at the end of the day........
