waterpump?
Iwas told that when you have your boat out of water and you put the muffs on that most of the time water wont spray out of the water pump discharge, ant opinions on this matter would be most appreciated...bought a used boat and dont want any surprises when i get on the lake....is this normal?

RE: waterpump?
my 1977 johnson 70hp has no outlet stream like all the newer motors have, all the discharge comes out the exaust port behind the prop, and a very small amount out the upper exaust port.if i take the thermostat out the water will discharge out the upper exaust, now you can run all summer long without the thermostat but make sure you put it back in when winter rolls around. i went thru this whole waterpump thing last year also, worrying about if its working or not. so what i done was put a new one in a new thermostat, and a marine repairman explain how the water discharges and that worry was over. i hope this helps put your mind at ease, with thirty year old motors like ours theirs allways else to worry about. happy huntin

RE: waterpump?
run it until it gets warm and the thermostat opens,if you can put it in a tub with water inlets submerged water hose pressure will circulate the water even if a water isnt good.if the pump is a year old or so and the boat hasnt been run replace it anyway.the rubber wil set then at high rpm it will break apart.
hour worth of labor and 30 dollar kit will guarantee no problems.

RE: waterpump?
I have only owned two boats. Both of my boats would spit out the water when I started it with the ear muffs.
