catfish on ky lake

a week or so ago i asked for some help re catching cats on ky, and the response was nice. thanks again to those who tried to help. unfortunately, my buds and i were unable to hook up with very many fish of any kind due to the rapid rise of water in the lake. well that's our story and we are stickin' to it. the friends i refer to are some high school chums from FORTY years ago, and we decided to do some primitive camping in lbl. i am still in recovery. the ground was HARD and my tent mate ran a husquavarna chain saw all night. must'a been cutting california redwoods. if you want to do some waterfront camping at lbl, try hillman's ferry. comes with electric and HARD ground. take a sleeping bag, a Personal One man tent, and an AIR MATTRESS. get some rest, and you will be able to concentrate on fishing. Honestly, and i do mean this, i sincerely have new respect for anyone who has ever had the misfortune of being a p.o.w. in conclusion, no fish to report here.

You shoud have went to the canal!!! . Use a slip bobber rig ,fish 8-9 ft deep. Shrimp or leeches.
WE go every year this time in June. Usually catch anywhere from 30-50 cats a day !!!!!!!!!! Mostly 4-6 pound range normally we will end up with 5 or 6 over 15lbs. We have been doing this trip for 4 years and caught them every time. Late afternoon and evening is the best time of day, with hte best bite from 6-9 pm. Funny they seem to quit after dark.

Do you do anything special to the shrimp,or just buy them and throw it out there?

No just go to walmart and get the ones that are clearanced because the date is running out,(ha ha ) . Pinch the shrimp in half and make two baits out of each one.Put just enough split shots on your rig that the slip bobber works easily,Hold the boat about 15- 20 feet off of the bank and pitch it out about half way and HANG ON !!! Last year on the first evening we caught 41 in 1 hr and 10 minutes. NON-STOP as fast as we could put them in the boat. That is not counting the ones we lost or missed when they bit. Came home with a bruise on my ribs the size of a softball from fighting so many fish !!!!!!!!REMEMBER the evening from 6-9 is the best time this late in the year!!

What type of shrimp...raw or cooked. Thanks for any info.

cooked shrimp = people food
raw shrimp = cat food
That's the way I see it anyway.

Raw frozen ones are the ones we get .Just keep them in the cooler and they will thaw out just enough to pinch them easily into. Good luck and plan on having sore ribs for awhile. Oh yes those numbers where with just 2 of us in one boat !!!!!!!!!!!!
