    Serious Jigging???

Everyone claims that if they were restricted to one lure that they could count on to catch fish it would have to be a jig. I have always been a real believer in plastics but have started making myself fish the jig a lot more because of the type of lakes I fish. What do some of you folks look for in a good jig. 1/4 vs 1/2 , hair versus rubber, plastic chunks versus pork, etc. Also is their a certain time just for a jig or as they say any time is a good time for a jig. Just interested in some of your thoughts.

I tend to like the bitsey jigs in 1/8 and 1/4. In cold water the pork is by far the best but in warmer times I will use zoom swim chunks on the 1/8s and frog chunks on the others. I throw jigs all year but also love the top water and crankbait bite.
Doesn't matter what they hit just so they do. A day fishin beats all else.

    RE: Serious Jigging???

I have become a real believer in the jig over the past 5-6 years. I've had some awesome jig days and caught some Hawg Molly BASS!!! I'm a fan of the 1/4 or 3/8. I'll throw a 1/2 from time to time in deeper water or when I need to punch through stuff.

Each time I fish I try new jig combos. Some work well and some don't. Last year the Net Bait Paca Chunk became my favorite trailer, although it's hard to beat the ZOOM chunks. Mix and match colors, combos and weights and find what works.

If you want to get really serious about jigs, go to www.staminainc.com and www.livingrubber.com. You can buy all the jig components, rattles, colors, etc. Make your own combos. It's fun to make your own jigs. You can make color combos that fish don't see a whole lot.

    RE: Serious Jigging???

I have always been a fan of jigs from the bitsy bug for smallies up to a 1 1/2 oz jig for heavy florida mats . Last summer I started using a 1 oz jig without a trailer as the weight for my carolina rig. I can't remember the name of the jig I use but the hook eye goes east and west versus north and south allows the line to go thru the eye a little easier. I have only caught two bass at the same time once but have caught many bass on the jig by itsself. This method will slow you down if you have a tendency to fish too fast great for deep water humps or those deep water dropoffs by bridges. Surprisingly I don't get hung up much,I use 30 braid for the main line and 8# to 14# test for the leader depending on water clarity. This is a good hot summer or post spawn rig after they pull off in to cooler water.
