Ron....

Which part of peabody are you going to?

A lot of the Ohio County WMAs are no longer accessable (Echols area), and in fact now have gates. We drove back there a couple of weeks ago.

Also, the old wildlife refuge has been turned back to the owners and there is not supposed to be any access, this is in Muhlenberg county.

I've been very vocal about the fact that Peabody is selling most of this area in Muhlenberg and Ohio county off. For instance, in Ohio county, the Kenlake area is now behind locked gates as that sale is apparently complete. We have been told Peabody is selling 6,000 acres that basically surround us, and this is south of hwy 62. Now, my wife's aunt lives north of 62, we have been told by her that peabody is now about to sell everything north of 62, and that would basically be all around her.

I wish you luck, there sure used to be a lot of good fishing back there. I am afraid that there will soon be no public fishing available to us regular guys.

BTW, my understanding is the area around us is supposed to be turned into one of those hunting ranches. Supposedly that area over around Echols is going to be the same thing.

Something is going on for sure, beyond the rumors, as we have had surveyors out here for the last several weeks.

What about Goose, Island and South lakes? It sounds like there won't be anything left with all of the land sales.

    Danny,

I am probably gonna set-up camp at Musky Lake. Haven't been in a few weeks. Hope it hasn't been "sold off" since the last time I was there. Just going down to "get away" and maybe fill the freezer with those Musky Lake slab 'gils. I'm still in mourning over all this Peabody land being sold. Wish I had a couple hundred "Gees" to spare, I would buy some myself.

Ron, you wanna hear something funny?

Pop (my father-in-law) has a friend who has worked for Peabody for probably 20+ years. he wanted to buy a couple of acres... no dice. They sold it off in huge chunks only. In fact, from what I heard a couple of the "upper crust" citizens of our county were even turned down because they could not afford all 6,000 acres at one purchase. Rumor is purchase price was around $2,000 per acre.

Like I say, it is sad that the regular person won't have any public access before too long.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-15-06 AT 10:02PM (EST)[p]I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that Mossy Oak has purchased a bunch of Peabody's land in order to make a hunting ranch as Danny said.

    Banditboy... question??

Where is Mossy Oak located? The only type of information we are able to get is that it is investors from Florida for one of the giant plots, and the other is supposedly from Georgia, the state I hope...LOL

    Thanks...

    Danny
