RE: Bone heads following the pros on KY

I think someone who follows another fisherman around to find his spots is not a fisherman at all. If you happen to be in the area and see someone fishing a spot that you did not know about then that is different. I was at Ky Lake during the FLW on a family fishing trip a couple years ago and I saw David Fritts fishing in 2 different spots. I already knew one of the spots was a good place because I found it myself years ago. Now the spot has so many people that were following him around fishing it that I haven't even caught a keeper on it. Just because you know the spot does not mean you can catch the fish. I went to one of my spots and the 7UP boat was on it so I waited until he left and caught 3 3+ fish behind him. I am sure he could go to my spots and sometimes do the same thing behind me. I live near a lake and fish several tournaments here myself. I spend alot of time and money practicing here. So many people are to lazy to put out their own brush piles that I have to do it at night so they will not see me. Pretty sorry! There is a separation between fisherman and freeloaders, look it up in the dictionary!

    LJBASS STANDS WHEN HE PEES

LJBASS, just wanted to say I appreciate your ethics when it comes to fishing. Imagine people actually reading maps and putting their time in to finding spots that hold fish, such a novel idea!! I read alot of posts saying that its part of the game and other unsportsman like stuff and I just cant figure it out. Just because some people might want to chew on a horse turd doesnt mean I want to and it doesnt mean thats how things should be. Now we got the pros promoting machines that make noises that make fish bite?? (KVD) Whats next?? and where does it end?? Ive heard of this machine that makes an electrical current and you stick this rod in the water and it makes fish float to the top of the water, and all you have to do is scoop'em up sounds like fun. Just wondering if we dont need to check ourselves sometimes and get back to the basics. I know I know "to each their own" thats why I love America. Hope I dont get this post locked up. ..................The fly

what ever happened to the golden rule?

I agree with getting back to the basics and I am laughing my butt off reading these posts. Tournament fishing and greed go hand-in-hand and it brings out the worst in a lot of people. Call it "part of the game" but people lose their sense of ethics fast when money, fame, and glory get on the line.

It's also funny how the conversation turns when tournament fishermen start complaining about being encroached on but when it is a week end angler then the perspective is different. Like the time I got cut-off and showed my frustration and the guy in the back of the boat turned to me and said "It's all right. We are fishing a tournament."

We all need to sit back and respect each other on the water regardless of intent. I wouldn't in a thousand years come up on someone and GPS nor fish a spot that they are already on but I have had it done to me countless times -- especially on tournament Saturday. Are all of these cut-off hooligans tournament anglers? No, but most are. It's no wonder why I enjoy night fishing on Ky lake so much this time of year.

I long for the days when fishing was about the basics -- relaxation and being outdoors. You against the fish watching the ospreys and herons hunt, soaking up the sun and breeze, and feeling your line being stretched from time-to-time. But this issue seems to be a pattern that goes way beyond fishing. General respect for other people seems to be fading away. What ever happened to the golden rule?

RE: what ever happened to the golden rule?

Reading this topic makes me remember why I fish with a worm and a bobber. Nobody GPS'ing the end of my dock, cutting me off, throwing lures at my boat and noone cussing me out. A cold beer, a hot day and a soft seat are the only thing I need. Well, besides the occasional catfish or bluegill...

I have to agree. I bass fish a lot but I fish other species also and I enjoyed fishing cats with bobbers and worms last month with my kids when they were spawning. 15 boats on the rocky bluff I fished and no one had any trouble with any one else. Laid back just catchin fish and rockin with the waves.
