    Hybrids slow at Guist yesterday

Trolled for hybrids at Guist yesterday afternoon. Marked a few good schools but they weren't interested in my baits. Temp was from 85 at the Marina to 81 at the dam. Fish were real scattered from 5 feet to 20 feet. Upper layer of hot water probably doesn't extend too deep and the deeper water to 20 feet still must have enough oxygen.

Are they in a false spawn?

I think the spawn is over and we are getting close to the summer pattern but we aren't quite there yet. The hybrids are still scattered down to 20 feet. Once they start forming bigger schools and relate to a specific depth they will be easier to catch. Your best bet right now is fishing real early in the morning or late in the evening. They are probably feeding close to the surface. Casting may be good on flats or points.

RE: Hybrids slow at Guist yesterday

LakeLover - I am new to Guist Creek fishing. I have fished up in Indiana for wipers and about this time of year they start schooling up toward the deeper areas (ie. the dam) and chasing those baitfish schools. I cast at them from a boat when we locate a school of baitfish and hybrids chasing them. Would this tactic work at Guist Creek or is it simply a horse of a different feather?

Was out there last night (the 25th) just cruising the lake and my fishfinder was going crazy picking up fish, but they were pretty spread out and at quite different depths. I was in the area between the marina launch and the dam.

Thanks for any info - it is greatly appreciated.
