    SPRO Bronze-eye Frog

I had a tough time getting hooked up on bass this past weekend with my SPRO Bronze-eye Frog. I was fishing thick grass matts which would have made a trailer hook do nothing but hang up. Also, a trailer hook on the frog would hurt the action a little. I would wait a while after the strike to feel the weight of the fish before setting the hook. I'd feel the fish, set the hook, and then the frog would pop out. It was frustrating!!! Does anyone know of any tips?

If I'm not mistaken the frog has a good bit of skirt length correct? That could be the problem, inspect it after a miss for teeth marks or what not, you also can slightly bend those hooks up too. I wouldn't cut the skirt on the only SPRO you had though, buy another and trim it.

Sounds like you did everything you could. Sometimes the fish win! The only thing that i could suggest is make sure you have the proper rod and line, the reel isn't an issue if it's in working order. I like to use 7 ft medium heavy action with power pro braid. I like the hooksetting power with this set-up. Good luck.

I'm with DJD on this one. Some times that just happens. Definitely use braid---I use Power Pro and a strong rod to make sure you get a good hook set. Had the same thing happen while fishing grass at Old Hickory using a Zoom Horny Toad. Caught one keeper and had 4 more that did not get hooked up----really frustrating!
