    fishin deep?

I've been told that the fish are hanging out deep this time of year. How deep is deep? 10, 20, 30ft. I'm fishing Barren soon and i know there are deep spots on this lake. How deep should one fish to make sure they hit the strike zone? Creeks or main lake?

I caught fish last weekend in the 15 - 20 ft range both on Barren and Ky Lake. Try mainlake points/ledges. I had really good luck with points where the old channel swings by the bank. Use a carolina rig with baby brush hogs in watermelon seed color and dye the tail chartreuse, also spray it with some YUM Garlic/Anis attractant spray. DD22's are also very productive when the fish are active. It was crazy how the fish acted last weekend, you would fish a spot with no luck, but then all of a sudden it was one right after another! It can get exciting!

    Hope this helps!

According to the data I just looked at, the thermocline for Barren appears to be around 15ft. The oxygen levels below 16ft could not support bass for long periods of time. I have not been to Barren this year (yet) but my guess would be that fish would be holding in the 10-15ft range. Hope this helps.

    BabyHuey,

Man, I had four keepers totaling over 8 lbs., nothing much to really brag about but better than nothing. The largest one was 3.36 lbs. I caught all four of them within a matter of ten minutes off of one spot early in the morning. It was awesome! The rest of the day was full of short fish and trying to keep those four fish alive. The rest of my team didn't do worth a darn! Eric had one little fish that barely weighed a pound and Cody and Clayton both zeroed. All in all I was satisfied because I didn't have any practice on the lake other than the weekend you and I fished together. Once again, the crankbait bite never worked out for me. It was a fiercesome bite on the carolina rig though! None of that nibbling stuff, just straight up grab it and run! I like it that way!

It was a little crowded on the lake that day, the KBF was everywhere along with a few other bass clubs. Some of those places you showed me turned out to be community holes, but heck, if they didn't hold fish no one would fish 'em, right?! :)
