whats up with bass saturday????????????/

is everybody as disappointed with bass saturday as i am?

got up at 6am turned on the tv and hunting was on.
set the vcr came back home after fishing the fishing show on it was bass tech.

would have been very mad if i wasted my morning trying to watch some good fishing shows and got stuck watching soccer or that other garbage that was on like charlie moore but didn't even see him on that tape.

we need to stand together and everybody email espn and tell them our thoughts.

wait all week to watch your favorite pros. or to see something educational.

instead we have a laughing, loudmouth idiot & soccer

I'll agree that the bass fishing shows on ESPN are of very low quality - although bass fishing shows don't generally interest me that much anyway.

But you have to be kidding if you're whining about those taped shows not being played in favor of Wimbledon and the World Cup. Those are the premier events in those respective sports and since they happen in Europe they are on early in the morning over here. It would be ridiculous to keep those off the air in favor of those other produced, generic fishing shows.

Hmmm...hard to believe anyone that would be posting on an internet fishing site would rather watch a fishing show on tv rather than soccer or tennis isn't it?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-03-06 AT 11:54AM (EST)[p]Why? Just because they post here means that is their number one priority? Fishing is my favorite pasttime too, but I do have other interests. I like fishing better than soccer or tennis, but I can recognize that the particular soccer and tennis events that are currently going on are much bigger than ESPN's canned, generic fishing shows and wrap-ups already-old tournament news.

Now if the BassMaster classic was going on and ESPN decided to show a taped MLS game from a week ago, or an instructional video on how to hit a forehand, then I would be arguing that the fishing should be on.

fishergurl & Mike....

Mike you first.. OLN...LMAO... don't fret my friend, this September they are set to change their name to Versus. This is to more accurately portray their programming as bing of some type of competition.

Now fishergurl.... I love and support your argument. You are correct. Those sporting events, such as Wimbledon... it that's how you spell it, is the premier event in its sport, unless you consider maybe the US open or the French Open, or any one of the other "premere" events they have. But where you miss the mark is this, with your support being so feverent, you should be uspest that it is relegated to ESPN2, and not shown on ESPN. If these really are such big events, why not showcase them on the flagship station? Further, why has ESPN done so much marketing of "BASS Saturday" just to simply preempt it with "Breakfast at Churchilldowns", or "Breakfast at Wimbeldon" or Breakfast at Pembrook?

I think you see the picture.

I no longer get BASSMASTER magazine, but it always had several pages of ads for BassSaturday in it each month.

To me, this and other such moves clearly show a lack of direction at ESPN.

But maybe that's just me.

RE: fishergurl & Mike....

I believe that ESPN is a NATIONAL network, not a WORLDWIDE network. Tennis and soccor may be played on worldwide basis but there are probably more fishing fans in the US than there are tennis and soccor fans. Both tennis and soccor are pretty boring after the first five minutes. ESPN could care less about the American fisherman. They bought BASS as a way to make financial gain and it has blown up in their face. I personally think you'll see BASS on the market again before long. (but who cares)So what is the answer? Don't waste your video tape while your fishing on Sat morning. Let Fishgurl and the soccor and tennis fans support ESPN, I'm going fishing and they can go to the devil............

if tennis and soccer is such great events and needs that much coverage why don't they show in on espn classic instead of showing boxing matchs that happened 20 years ago.
don't get me wrong i like boxing but why show the same matches over and over.

the outdoor channel isn't much better but they do have hank parker, angler on tour & ultimate match fishing. but they don't advirtise Bass Saturday and then only show 1 show that has any thing to do with bass fishing.

beat charlie moore is the biggest joke on tv.

bottom line is until we all stand together nothing is going to change. I email espn and complained. one complaint from one person isn't going to do anything.

but if they received complaints from the couple thousand people that post on these site and other sites maybe they will wake up.

espn is doing all these changes to bassmaster trying to make it as big nascar but there taking in consiteration the people they making mad along the way. stupid decisions like the ones they've in the past couple years is the reason i fish the flwoutdoors event and not bassmasters.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-03-06 AT 01:03PM (EST)[p]Like I said in another post, saturday morning is the single worst time to market to fishermen, since most of them are on the water, especially tournament fishermen. That being said, there are enough ESPN's out there that tennis or World Cup Soccer could be on any one of them. The ratings, especially for world cup soccer in the US are pathetic, wimbeldon a little bit better. Whatever, ESPN can do what they want when they want.

What bugs me is OLN. There are things on OLN that have nothing to do with the outdoors. When you purchase a cable or satellite package and pick the outdoor channels for outdoor programming, it is a big disappointment when it is not available.

Heck, take a poll on here to see how many people who are fishermen are actually remotely interested in soccer or tennis, I'd be suprised if it was very high at all.

It doesn't matter if we're interested in soccer or tennis. What matters is ESPN deciding which will get the highest audience at that particular time. Here they have the rights to the premier event in two major worldwide sports and people would seriously suggest they should not show them live in favor of some taped bass program?!!

If the Super Bowl were played on a Saturday morning and ESPN had the rights to it, would you blame them for showing goofy bass fishing shows instead?

Whoa there!!! I don't blame them for anything, I am personally just not interested in watching tennis or soccer and wouldn't doubt it if most on here feel the same way. Their network, their decision.

Also, I am not much for "goofy fishing shows", I watch the bassmaster events and used to watch Schooled by Denny Brauer before they made the wise decision to ditch that and keep Charlie Moore.

They also started to show " A day on the lake with a pro", something many of us have been reading in Bassmaster for years, and something that can be very educational as well. You can't possibly blame bass fishermen for being disappointed when they turn on their TV's in hopes of seeing their favorite programming only to find something they are not interested in?

I have the outdoor channel and I've written to them to complain about their poor quality programming. If it weren't for In-Fisherman, I'd probably cancel them.

In addition, their hunting shows are terrible. Usually, they are little more than caged hunting.
