What prop to use

Want to know what the best prop uis for a 21ft triton with a 225 Mercury. 68 is the best we can get out of it.

I know a lot of people have had a lot of luck on that particular combination running a 25 or 26 tempest, post this question over on www.bassboatcentral.com under one of the many boards dedicated to this particular topic and you will get the best response

What kind of a prop are you running. That is about as fast as that boat will run IF that is gps

A good place to get help with setting up your boat is bassboatcentral.com post a question in the Triton board but they will need more info than what you have given...jack plate/no jackplate, current prop 3 blade 4 blade size pitch, motor hight off transom, water pressure at wot and current max rpm. If you dont have a jackplate it will be hard to find the sweet spot. You may already have the right prop but just need to come up on the plate if you have one.When adjusting the jackplate keep an eye on your rpms and water pressure. some one here might be able to help you but over at BBC they have some guys good at setting up a boat.

A couple of questions......


A representative of Triton told me that the X series boats have a slower hull, and will not run as fast as the older Tritons.

Second, who set yours up? My boat was set up in 2002 by Jet-A-Marina, and I was able to GPS 77 on my boat. I can usually get just over 70 with a passenger with a full tournament load.

I generally don't find it necessary to travel that fast. In fact, often 60 is plenty fast for me. So if you have an X series, and want a faster boat... maybe we can work out a trade?

try moving weight to the rear of the boat,yamaha 3 blade pro series props work well on the old tr's not sure about the x series.the old tr's would gps mid 70's with a good set up and run around 70-72 with average.my late partners would run gps 76 with him and i and our load 15 rods 20lb tackle fuel and usual stuff on board. 225 vmax 25 pro series.it would bump rev limiter on long runs at wot and had awesome holeshot.also had hydro jackplate.

it has a 25 trophy on it now and does have a jack plate. it just seems to me that it should run a little harder. i am going to experiment and will let you all know the results. has any one ever heard of plugging the holes on the prop to get more bite out of the hole.

yes plugging the holes will allow it to blow out less,are your rpms going up on holeshot but the boat not accelerating?if so plug a hole doesn't take much to change it.check propshaft height,if you can raise it you can pick up mph and rpms the quickest there,1\4 to 1\2 inch can make a huge difference,it will free up the hull more.are you sure the motor doesn't have a fouled or weak spark plug and is running good,is the prop bent or chewed up,been reworked...is the bow of the boat floating when you trim up or does it stay flat?if you have the very forward storage heavy loaded it will kill top end performance,we all ways used it for life jackets and clothes and lighter stuff.

How many rpm,s are you turning with this prop at 68 mph?
