John Davis is a class act. No need to bring your watch for all of his trips are Daylight to Dark. Known him for a couple of years now and he does an excellent job. He flat out knows how to FNF plus is Excellent with the Silver Buddy. Headrick, Coan and Sandfer are more well known but I would put John right up there with them all. Johns house and cabin that he owns at Dale are right in between Sandfer and Coan an the same road. The absolute best guide to teach the Float and Fly is Bob Coan. Bob invented Bob's Bobber, and several of the innovations that are used in the technique. Not that the others are not good, but most of them incorporate methods Bob developed.. Not only that but In Fisherman also goes to Bob as well as Steven Headrick who makes the Float and Fly that most folks use... the Duck Feather. Bob got the duck feather from a friend who then gave the idea so Steven.. so Bob is responsible for much of the technology that is used today including the 3 way swivel.

I'm sure it would work. That not an ideal set up but it will work. Like I said I know several good fishermen that us a short 6"6" medium rod with no problems and they have landed some monster stripers without any problems. The softer slower rod would just help protect the smaller line and cast the light rig a little better. The rod is not overly crucial. I've seen crappie rods used with good sucess. You may want to up the line size with the fast rod to be on the safe side. I know plenty of people catching them with 8 lb line even though most seem to be using 4-6 lb line. Good luck, I'm no expert so take my advice with a grain of salt. Set the drag to give before the line breaks.

One of the wisest post yet when it comes to the smaller length rods. If you don't listen to that, you'll break on the the hook set most of the time.

Sooo correct Plowboy! I used a BPS special for years with a house foam filled pear bobber for years....that's how I learned the technique.

I feel like the guides have really refined it to make it easier for the weekend angler to wack them.... with the special bobbers, etc.

I just love when that bobber disappears......as Will Ferrell (as Harry Carry on SNL) says....it's a rush ;^)
