Hello all,new to the board.
Just wondering if anyone knows how the crappie or catfish are biting at Lake Malone.

Welcome to the board.
I can't fish Malone anymore due to the hp limit. Hopefully that will be corrected next spring. So, as you may guess, I don't know about the bite.
When I was fishing down there, I did catch a few crappie by accident around the dam, particularly the over flow drain. There are some nice channel cats in that lake. I used to have a pontoon, and I'd go out very very early, tie up to a bluff, cast out, and I kept getting woke up by those pesky fish... LOL
I've never done very well there for bass, but a lot of others do.
Good luck,
Danny
PS, I only live about 30 miles from the lake, how about you?
I live in Hadley so its just as close for me to go to Malone as it is Barren.
Have catfished there before with a little luck but no crappie. SO no real advice to give - I hope to spend some more time out there for the bass though - even though in the past haven't had much luck either. One of the fishing magazines has it labeled as a KY secret Bass lake.
I have had catfish luck on the big rock wall coming around the bend from shady cliff.
Pastor,
I would have a tough time describing where I fished for my catfish, but there is a bluff wall that has an underwater spring flowing in at a pretty swift pace. I tied my pontoon up and would fish there. I found schools of fish there every time I was there.
Maybe sometime I can try to help you find it. I've not catfished there for a long time, but I think I can find it again.
Danny
Sounds great - I am always up for a new hole. I am not much of a catfisher though - I am mainly out to catch a bass. However, for the sake of getting to know my church members better and for the fact they won't convert to bass fishing I am trying to learn the ropes of cat and crappie fishing. Maybe if you can help me find that place then I can put a good Christian whipping on my church members :)
They don't pull water at Malone like they do at Barren do they?
I am hoping to get out there some this fall - if you are every up for it.
Pastor,
Malone is fed by a couple very small "rivers" and there is just a spillway. No way to really pull water. The only time there has ever been much current is when there has been a lot of rain, and I mean a lot of rain.
I only bass fish anymore, gave up the catfishing when I got rid of the pontoon. If they do change the HP limit to where I can get out with my 225, I may do some catfishing with my wife. She loves to tight line or bobber fish.
I've only caught a couple of decent bass at Malone. I would love to spend more time on the lake now. i have much more confidence in it than I used to.
Let me know when would be a good time for you??
Danny
