Kentucky Lake/ Lake Barkley Biggest Bass!

Lets get a feel on how big the catchable bass actually grow here on the big lakes. My biggest is a LM just over 5 lbs., caught on a homemade soft plastic in 3 ft of water in the middle of summer. Someone tell me their biggest bass catch of 2005 on these two lakes, I haven't seen one this year over 6lbs.

Caught a 7-12 near the Little River on Barkley, 10:30 on a hot summer morning on a shallow Eakins jig. Biggest fishI've ever caught in KY. Would have been worth $750 for big fish in the BFL I fished the day before, story of my life.

    Will be caught this Friday

Heading down to fish Friday and Saturday and wanted to report in advance of my pending 12lb Smallmouth that I plan on catching. This World Record Smallmouth will be caught at 6:13am CST on a Black and Gold Super Zara Spook. A Curado SF reel firmly mounted upon a 7' G Loomis rod spooled with 12lb P Line is the pending sponsorships that will be lining up outside my door. Tracker Pro V 17 with 90 Mercury motor was vehicle use in this apprehension. This BIGUN was cornered, corralled, and entually lipped in the back of Sugar Bay. Upon the lipping, measurements, weights and several photo opportunites. The Largest Brownfish Ever Caught was transported to the nearest official weigh in sight to have official weights and measurements recorded. After proper verifications, the fish was taken back to the exact same place in Sugar Bay where she was enticed to strike and RELEASED to grow again to give someone else an opportunity of breaking my new world record for the current world record is all MINE.

RE: Kentucky Lake/ Lake Barkley Biggest Bass!

My personal best this year was a 5.82 pounder (was a tournament big fish in July) caught on North Kentucky Lake at 1 PM, with pleasure baoters and jet-skiers zipping around us on both sides. Actually had one guy on a jet-ski stop and watch my partner and I land it. On the very next cast, I caught a 3.5.

A buddy and I caught a 5 and a 5.5 this spring on South Barkley fun fishin in May.

My partner and I caught a few 5's this year, mostly pre-fishing for T's, but one of those came during a tournament.

Other than that, we caught several 4's.

In fact, Every trip I've made to KY/Barkley this year, someone in the boat has caught a 5+ over the 2 days we were usually there.

Last Fall, My buddy caught one at least 6 (I was thinkin 7+) fun fishin in Little River, but we didn't have a scale. That thing was huge.

In July this year I had a 20, 22, and 23 inch smallmouth off a ledge in Ky Lake. Didn't have a scale to weigh them. All were caught in a 50 yard stretch within about 30 minutes. Also had some 2-4 lb. largemouth with them. Biggest smallies I have seen, and I have been on Erie and St. Clair a few times. Took pictures and released them.

My biggest on Barkley this year was 5.12lbs in August on a 3/8oz Moonlight Snack, Secret Weapon spinnerbait at night. I also caught a 5.11, 5.08, 5.02 and 2 over 4lbs, 3 in the 3lb range and a bunch 2lb and under. I missed some real nice fish too, would have been nice to how big they were. My buddy caught one over 4lbs and some smaller ones, he also missed some nice fish. My best trip for numbers of big fish to date.

My biggest ever was 6.02lbs two years ago, at night on a Midnight Snack II.

That was by far the best fishing for me this year. Other than that trip, it has been the worst year I have fished on any lake in years!

How has this year compared to other years for everyone??

RE: Kentucky Lake/ Lake Barkley Biggest Bass!

This has been a little off year for me on the big lakes. I don't feel it due to the fish being "down" but more to my lack of quality time spent on the lakes. I have caught a lot of small fish and keeper-sized fish this year but fewer bigger fish -- both LM and SM. Last year I did real well on KY at night in the summer taking (4) SM over 5 but this year I only caught a 4. But I only got over there 3 nights. I even had a couple SM over 5 on Barkley last year. I know the quality fish are there but you have to put some time in to tune into them. This hasn't been that kind of year for me.

In the early 90's I saw the 13+ bass that was caught in Carmack Bay on a Crappie jig, this bass was a few ounces off the lake record. When I saw the fish it was being keep alive at one of the docks.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-05 AT 04:56PM (EST)[p]Well from that I have to ask...does anybody know what the lake records are on Barkely and Kentucky? Does any organization actually keep track of such a thing?

Also, for the official record. That 8+ lber my buddy caught came from an area that Dave showed us the day before...he knows his stuff. If they aren't there one day, its not because they don't live there...they may be there the next day biting like wildfire.
