Anyone have a review or opinion of this outboard motor. Looking at buying my first boat and the one I'm interested in has this engine. A buddy had some real problems with his 225 Merc Optimax DFI. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks, yes I will be buying used. Its a 1999. Why can't they sell in 2006?
EPA standards.
Are you looking to buy motor only? I have a 1997 Mercury 200EFI for sale, I am a certified mercury marine technician, and this motor is in excellent condition. Those 200EFI engines are very reliable engines!
No, the boat I'm interested in has this engine on it. Was just looking for some opinions/reviews on this motor. Thanks for the info.
Mercman, I'm looking for a 200EFI. How much are you asking?

GO to bassboatcentral.com and you can ask there or they have a merc board and find out anything. But in my opinion if it is maintained it is almost bullet proof,.
I am asking $5500.00.w/trophy 24 s.s Well mantained. e-mail address. [email protected]
would you consider trading for a 1998 evinrude intruder 175 freshly rebuilt
I agree.... the 200 EFI is extremely reliable, I have an '03 and have had zero problems with it....the only knock I have is that it likes oil a little more than I am used to.
I personally have a 1999 200 EFI. Recently had to replace the primer bulb, and had a problem with a ground wire causing the alarm to go off. But nothing major. Knock on wood!!! It's a strong running motor and starts very easily. Iv'e heard nothing but good things about the EFI unlike the early model Optimax. Make sure you have a compression check done on the motor!! It would be nice if they could tell you how many hours the motor has on it, but to my understanding they are not able to do that with the 1999 model EFI.
