    RE: Cumberland?

I can't really help you on that end of the lake, but I can tell you about the other end. I fish from Fall Creek to the mouth of Beaver. Last time out, I landed a 4.7 lb. smallie. I'm not a live bait man, so, do not know a thing about that, but this time of year, I do know a smallmouth will tear a black spinnerbait and a jig all to pieces. The only catch is, that, I fish at night. Usually from about 600 pm til 1 or 2 am. The secret is not to give up too early. The big smallies are there and ready to eat; just got to find them. Hope this helps. Reply back if you want more specifics.

That's what I like to hear, if I was fishing with a partner it wouldn't bother me but, most of my buddies either don't fish or have to work. So I'm gonna have to do more single fishing, which doesn't bother me other than having to talk to myself.

Last time down was with OneMoreCast and he showed me some tricks that I'm gonna try for smallies, he caught one smallie and several Ky's so it definately works. I'm just gonna have to slow myself down, I love burning a spinner or crank but at this time of year I doubt that will work...I'm thinking finesse will be the key.

Well, I hope you have a good weekend. It's a perfect weekend for those smallies. I put my biggest one in the boat this time last year.{6.0 lbs.} I don't know what your partner showed you, but, I do know what those big boys are hitting me on, and when.

Hey, I was down there at lee's ford marina helping my friends take oiut their boat the other day when I decided to slip out of the way and try to catch a few. When i got to the docks to fish I found bait everywhere like you said, I also had trouble getting strikes, i Tried buzzbaits, cranks, worms, until I finally put on a zara spook jr. and that did the trick, i caught about 6 or 7 1-3 pounders just thought it might help you. They were Largemouths that had just come up from the deep water, because they were the whitest largemouths i've ever seen.

    striperfishin....

First of all you have time to post your reply which is the same time it could have taken to email and said "What are your thoughts on smallies at Cumberland". This is pretty much what 2 other guys did and I replied to the first email and forwarded the exact same email to the 2nd guy. I don't fish Cumberland anymore for Smallies but did spend countless days the past 2 1/2 years on the Big C chasing Smallies and some times chasing Stripers as well. I posted my email address for I gave the other 2 gentlemen several "Spots" to try to catch some Smallies. From their email addresses, both of them are teachers in Ky. My wife used to be a teach in Ky and I understand the time she spent molding our young minds. School is in session so these gentlemen probably don't have the time to fish C land a lot especially from the county they both live in. Thought I would help them out specifically with "Spots" so I did. My Brother In Law still fishes Cumberland quite a bit and the same "Spots" that I gave the other 2 gentlemen, I will not advertise on this site for all to see. I am sure you don't post your best spots for Stripers. As far as techniques, here goes,

Option #1, Spinning Reel, 6lb test line, #8 Octopus Hook, tiny split shot, Biggest Shiners you can find (Personally the best are located at Lake Cumberland Country Store on US127 on the left just before entering the state park) bluff walls. Hook shiner thru Nasal Cavity, flip shiner close to bluff and let her work. Second area is main lake points next to river channel or deeper water. Third is 1/2 oz Silver Buddy worked off long sloping points that drop into deeper water.

    Hope this helps

Not trying to start any uproar here, but I DO give people my exact spots and tell how them exactly how and where i caught them. now if i am fishing a tournament, probably aint going to spill the beans. i always go up to guys in the marina and ask them how they did and where the fish are. it cracks me up that many fail to respond even though they did well. come one, like i am going to catch YOUR fish. i just want a little tip if i have been struggling. if i caught stripers pulling boards near the buffalo humps in beaver creek in 66 ft of water, and you ask me where i caught fish, i am going to tell you that i caught fish near buffalo humps in 66 ft of water. i am like that. if i can help a guy or give him some confidence on the water, i will.
