Cunmberland?
I noticed the tone of " If you're from Ohio please don't come to Cumberland" a lot on this site. I come down two or three times in November each year, with my son 20 years ago, with my grandson last weekend. Each time I stay at a hotel for two nights, eat breakfast and dinner at a local restaurant, buy a license, gas, etc. Have you local guys had experience with bad attitudes on the part of Ohio fisherman or is it a carry over from the summertime rowdy crowds?? When I come down I always try to be considerate and I just feel funny when I go somewhere I'm not welcome.

RE: Cunmberland?
it has never been the ohio fisherman that get people sparked up to hate on ohio about, down there its the pleasure boaters. C-land is the hot spot in the summer for northerners to play on their big boats and pleasure boaters tend to drink sometimes and do things they shouldnt and that fires people up to turn on ohio. Its not to say that ky people dont pleasure boat and drink and break laws because I have seen it too many times, I think people just look for a scapegoat for poor behavior on the water and out-of-towners always seem to get the brunt of the aggression. Make no mistake im sure the city of somerset, or monticello, or wherever you stay appreciates your business, so dont let a few people ruin your time in our great state. If you want a better feel for why some people hate on buckeyes in that neck of the woods, go to c-land on memorial day weekend and watch the craziness that goes on down there, say around 76 falls. ;)

RE: Cunmberland?
Bob,
Since it was my post that prompted you to write this (I think), guess I should answer.
I meant it as a joke that referred to the pleasure boaters the locals call The Ohio Navy. They have a reputation, maybe deserved, maybe not, of not exactly being the most considerate boaters on the water.
One great thing about 99% of the fishermen I know is that no matter where you're from, you're part of the brotherhood. I fish a lot in Tennessee and I always make sure I wear something from my Big Blue collection so I can be guaranteed to start up a conversation. :-)
You're welcome to come down anytime! Sorry if I offended.

RE: Cunmberland?
Thanks for responding guys, I feel better. I was on a houseboat as a guest about 15 years ago in July.No Thanks. It was a once and out experience. I like the solitude of Novemeber. I have always been treated well by the fisherman and deer hunters while on the ramp, lake or at the Lake Cumberland Bait Store( gourmet breakfast egg and sausage, gas and shiner store on 127 south of Jamestown). My grandson did mention last Friday that his sandwhich tasted like a shiner, I told him that was better than Hawg Jaw Garlic Juice I use on soft plastics.

RE: Cunmberland?
In reference to the mighty Lake Cumberland, the term "Ohio Navy" has been in existance AT LEAST since the 60's...My dad used to take our family there when I was a kid back in those days and I can remember the term Ohio Navy was used way back then...

RE: Cunmberland?
Bob,
You just bring it on and enjoy yourself. The mere fact you asked tells me the type person your are. I will tell you have have run into far more KY punks, geeks, smucks, and arrogant morns with KY plates and registraion numbers than folks from OH.
Ya see, some of the locals do rightfully get tired of the tourists that come to town and act like the world owes them something. Here's a news blast, some of those morons are from Louisville, or Bowling Green. Hey, to me the Lexington aristocracy meatheads I've had the displeasure of meeting are by far the winners of the the no tact, no civility club.
But here's what I bear in mind and repeat out loud if needed. Its not the town, the city, or the state that makes arrogant pukes. Towns, cities, and states don't make babies. People do.
So here's my most humble advise, Come and enjoy, don't waste your time disciplining the childish, just kick back, relax, and remember....round here, as a guest, that acts like a guest, everyone is welcomed. I treat people with the same level of respest they afford me. But I won't waste a minute arguing with a moron, I just grin, say Have a Nice Day, and walk away not letting it dent my enjoyment. And I admit, I sevret wiat to hear the same voice break the marine band saying he needs a tow. I usually answer with, "okay, I'm on my way, be there soon". The load up and trailer out as the sunsets behind me.

RE: Cunmberland?
So, Hurricane Bob, where might you be from, since you've already thrown L-ville, B-green, and Lex. under the bus?
-
RE: Cunmberland?
But this cant be true cos all hurricane bob does is grin and say have a nice day( so much for that quote) LOL.
People I dont care where ya go there is always a bad apple if your not one of these bad apples then ignore the malicous rumors. We are all fisherman for the most so we have the tendancies to add to the truth LOL. Lets all try to get along and help each other out as much as possible. I live close enough to be concidered a Lexington resident, I guess. However I dont care what anyone says about people from Kentucky but I do say if ya dont like the people here why ya come here for?

RE: Cunmberland?
To Hurricane Bob and Dennis: I mean nothing offensive by my question. I'm from Richmond and I guess I fall under the "Lexington Meatheads". I come to C-land quite often and have never disrespected another fisherman, even when I have been disrespected. I guess I took it the wrong way when someone started stereotyping people by where they're from. I couldn't care less where any of you are from, as long as you respect me and everyone else on the water. If you are a fisherman, then, there should be a mutual respect. I know when someone uses the term, "Ohio Navy", they rarely ever mean a fisherman from Ohio. It's those idiots that are pleasuring and partying. I have had words with those people and I will again, if I get totally disrespected. If any of you all are like me, no matter where you're from, you love to fish and you don't want to be messed with while you're doing it. That's fair. Hope you understand what I'm talking about. By the way, the reason I'm on here so late is because, I just got back fron C-land, and froze my butt off. Didn't do any good, really. Had five spots about 12-14 inches and one smallie that went 17 inches. Stripers came up early and quit early. Hope this helps someone, even the Ohio guy.{just joking} You all have a good Holiday weekend.

RE: Cunmberland?
I live in Ohio and grew up in southern kentucky and I never seem to feel resented by local fishermen. But of course I don't jump to the head of the line at the boat ramp or tie up traffic at the ramp by getting the boat ready to go while parked on the ramp or wash them up on the bank as I go by.actually you will see people from all states doing this on occasion
