    New Curado Reels

Anyone tried one of the new Shimano Curado reels. I've been a huge fan of the 200Bs (I've got (4) super-frees, (1) 3.8 to 1 and (1) 5.8 to 1) for many years. I've also noticed a lot of non-sponsored fishing pros using these on T.V. They never say anything about their reels, except gear ratios, and they have no shimano patches anywher on their shirts. So, they must use them for a reason. I held one of the new Curados for the first time yesterday. My first thought was how much bigger the reel is now. This must be to house the much bigger drive gear which is now 7 to 1. My second thought was that the reel also went up by $50 too. This is getting to be a rich man's game. I hear a lot of fishermen are buying up all they can oof the old Curados because it a GREAT reel at at a RELITIVELY lower price.

    RE: New Curado Reels

Better get the old ones while you can---2006's are totally different. My first impression of the "new" style of Shimano reels, is that with the bigger gear, but smaller body, the reel almost feels lop-sided. Kind of heavy on one side when it's attached to a rod. If you try to hold the reel level---it wants to lean to one side. Good for underhand flipping and pitching stuff--I guess. Haven't had the chance to actually fish with one yet. Prices have gone up.

The new one wraps around the rod instead of sitting on the rod. Kind of hard to explain, but it does sit funny.

    Rick,
What's up buddy? You're exactly right, they do kind of wrap around the rod seat. They definitely feel more low-profile.

    RE: New Curado Reels

I'm glad someone who has actually fished with one finally said something. I have a buddy that swears by them, but he is not a good fisherman. I have the old chronarch 100's, and you couldn't get me to trade one for an upgrade for nothing. Everyone has their own preference, but, I guarantee that they{Shimano} messed up when they started fixing something that wasn't broke. By the way, if anyone knows where to get some more of those old Chronarchs, please let me know. I don't know if everyone knows it, but, there is a lifetime warranty on the chronarchs.

Hey Mark how are you man? Hope you are doing all right. When you planning on getting me those old curados hahaha. Just kidding.

Mooseknucle I'm not familier with the old chronarch but I was messing with a new one the other day and it was awesome. Man that thing had some free spin and it was very light. At $249 though it was a little steap right now.

    RE: New Curado Reels

Rick, not sure now, I may just keep all of my old Curado's. Like someone said---why fix something that isn't broke? But, if I do get rid of my 200's and 100's, I'll let you know first.

Yep----short visit this past Sunday. Place was packed and the check out lines long. I got out quick and spent what I had planned on spending. I'll make a return visit soon when I have more time and I'll look you up.
