Not trying to hijack your post here Elwood...but since I can't initiate a new post string I thought I would put up a bit of news here especially since it is about smallmouth:

It was announced on Monday that the IGFA has reversed its decision about the world record Smallmouth (11lb 15oz) that was caught by David Hayes of Litchfield, Ky in 1955 out of Dale Hollow on the Ky side. They have reinstated this fish as the world record.

It is about time they did this....the record should never have been taken away from David in the first place.

I have not seen any reaction yet from KDFW since they also went along with the IGFA when they disqualified the fish a few years ago but I would hope that the KDFW will also reinstate this fish as the Ky record smallmouth since it was taken in Ky waters.

The down side to this is that now instead of looking for that new 9lb state record I am going to have to look for a 12lber....heck it has taken me all my life before I had one on this summer that I was sure would make 9lbs before she gave me back my mangled spinnerbait...gonna be a while yet I suspect.

My pictures are on 35MM and my honey will scan them into our computer so I can email it out. I will get this done Thursday night. I don't know how to post a picture here but if anyone can give this non-computer person directions I will gladly post one here. She is a bute.

Side note for Dave: I did not know that the record was ever in jeopardy. I thought the 11-15 still stood, thanks for the info. I am still looking for a 12 pounder. Like I posted earlier, I was told one was seen this past year at Dale Hollow by a Scuba Diver that resembled a 2x12 and was supposed to be defineately over 12 pounds. I use 6lb Green P line on my fly and it is the toughest line that I ever used. I never had been broken off during a fight with a smallie all last year with this same line but was broke off 5 or 6 times by fish that I never saw this last trip. Could have been a fluke or could have been that 2x12, will never know. Plan on FNF Ky Lake several days this winter to see if it will work. Maybe I will see you on the water.

Thanks for such a detailed report. Sounds like ya had a good time all in all. However, no matter how ya catch that record fish ya still caught it. And I think however it is caught is alot of luck rather it be fishing for that species or not. I know what you're saying but that guy landed that fish fair and square. So give him the praise he deserves not just a mere "lucky catch bud". I know I have lost the biggest brown fish I had on several times. Dont think I ever had one on in the double digits but that would be hell gettin in the net but a blast.
