    RE: Mercury Motor Stinks

It sounds to me that the problem is in the trim switch that came in the TRACKER !! That is not the motors fault. AND it sounds like you need a new mechanic. What was wrong the times it stranded you?

Sorry, you're having problems EL. It did okay when you and I went out in it. Don't know Mercs, but sounds like a switch or relay. If it's not one of those, it's gotta be wiring. Like the other fellow said, you need another shop that'll take the time to find the problem. Did the other 2 shops say they replaced anything, or come up with NTF?

    RE: Mercury Motor Stinks

The problem is the trim switch on the motor not the Tracker. When it rains I put a towel or something over the one up front next to me and take a glad sandwich back and turn it upside down over the one on the throttle for I was told these go bad first. As far as mechanics go I would think the Bass Pro Shop service center in Cincy would be good enough. It has left me stranded due to the motor trimming to the deck in the middle of a massive rainstorm at Pig Pen wall in Cumberland (Great night that was Clebo), Would not start at Dale Hollow in February this year (fuel system problem and yes I use the best gas possible, they did $1500 bucks of work so it was not something simple luckily my aftermarket paid that) would not start at Dale Hollow in Winter 2004 ( I had to pay $400 out of pocket due to there not being an authorized service dealer open in the area, but when it is day 1 of a week long fnf trip and you have paid for cabin and all the extras no boat means no trip, I paid it to get it fixed) In the shop now 2 times for the motor trimming to the deck within the past 2 weeks. Mercury does not care at all. My motor my troubles is all I get out of these people. It is no fun trolling until your battery is dead then trying to get a tow, wading my big behind in the water to put this beast on the trailer with no motor. Mercury Problem and they don't care.

Appreciate the comments Jim, when it runs she does fine. I am gunshy about running any distance from the ramp especially since I night fish most of the time. Hell it quit running in December when I was wide open in the middle of Dale during a tourney with my buddy Clebo in the boat. 40 MPH to nothing for no reason at all. I fired her back up and she ran like a champ again. WHy did she quit in the first place? What if I had been crossing KY and go stuck in the crossing channel shut down. Even worse what if I was crossing KY at winter pool with a few waves coming at me that washes me up onto the ledges and stuff. Pisses me off.

Yamaha, Honda, Evinrude, E Tec, Rowboat, Sailboat all will be considered on the next venture. Love the boat and have done a lot of work on it to personalize it to my fishing and spent a lot of money on it. If I could just get from point A to point B it would be nice.

Man it sounds like you have gotten a lemon . As for the trim switch on the motor I have been around motors for 35 years and have only seen one go bad on the actual motor. For you to have 2 go bad in two weeks sounds like you are really unlucky.Don't get me wrong but I think when you find the bug in the electrical system it will be one of the other trim switches. Next time it does it pull the wires off the other switches and see what happens.

    Mercury Motor Stinks

Yes I know the rules of the board and will attempt to give all information that I can to insure this message is not deleted so here goes. I bought a brand new boat in 2003, Tracker Pro V 17 with a Mercury 90HP motor from Bass Pro in Cincinnati. My first boat I have ever owned of any kind so I thought I would do the right thing and buy new plus a Mercury Motor, I thought was the best. Boy how wrong was I. To make a long story short, I have been left stranded 3 different times due to motor, starting or trim issues. Not to mention the 2 other times it has been in the shop for other problems that did not leave me stranded. The latest is today where my boat is in the shop again for the trim problem that was supposed to be repaired last week when it was in the shop. One night trip and one wash later and it is doing the same thing again, trimming the motor all the way to the deck ON ITS OWN. This is the same problem that has put the boat in the shop on 2 other occasions in 2 different AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALERS including the Bass Pro shop in Cincinnati with no luck. Mercury Stinks and I will NEVER have another one as long as I live. **** good thing I paid cash for the boat for I would really be beside myself if I was making a payment on this piece of GARBAGE. Yeah I know I still spent money on it but at least it was not the interest as well. I have called Mercury on 5 different occasions and they have given up a few parts but I still have to pay the labor for the great and wonderful after market warranty the I bought is not worth the card that I carry in my wallet. In all I have spent over $1,000 of my own money on a motor that is just now 3 years old. TERRIBLE.

Personally I hope Mercury goes out of business and I for one will do all I can to steer anyone and everyone to other brands so they don't have to put up with all the crap. I have no problem getting a DUD but it would be nice if Mercury was reputable enough to stand by their product enough to fix it permanently or give me a new one and take this piece of garbage off my hands. But according to their almighty customer service department ( what a joke) they don't change out motors. Once you buy it it is yours. Maybe a few of you should follow me around for the next time it leaves me stranded it will either be given away to the first person I see or sank on the spot.

    RE: Mercury Motor Stinks

It is the trim switch not the motor. For whatever reason it has shorted 3 times in 3 years, twice in the last 2 weeks. After about 15 phone calles to Mercury and Bass Pro, I ended up getting a VP of Mercury and pointed him to my post on this board and assured him that I would post the same thing every chance I get and on every board that I can in hopes of steering just 1 person away from Mercury. He ended up agreeing to send a new trim motor, trim switches and relays to my repair dealer in Evansville in hopes this will fix it. I still have to pay for the labor for my after market insurance (what a joke) won't cover that for "There was not a faulty part found" Maybe I will get my boat back before FNF season arrives for I will fish the Billy Westmoreland Classic at Dale if I have to go buy another boat (Stratos 210 Pro XL with a 250 Evinrude fully decked out with all the bells and whistles) to do so.

Tight Lines to all and Mercury still STINKS
