    Basscenter gets the AXE!

well another one bites the dust. Now granted this was not the best show ever, not always much in the way of information but every now and then if you paid close enough attention you could steal something from it. The only thing I found humorous about the whole read is that they are axing it to make room for the NEW BEAT CHARLIE MOORE and the riveting Great American Sportsman. Man those people in bristol, CT are truelly clueless. For more info http://www.bassfan.com/news_article.asp?ID=1820

    RE: Basscenter gets the AXE!

I read the snipett on the "dock talk" section the other night about this. As I replied to bassfan, makes perfect sense.

EXPN has ruined bassmaster magazine, the federation, and now "Bass Saturday" has become Bass 150 minutes!!! LOL

I figure they may as well axe the entire lineup.

    Tight lines and God Bless

Next thing you'll probably be hearing is after the next BassMaster Classic, is that KVD will be switching to the FLW series....Just my opinion..... Fellows look where the money is, it's not with BASS anymore, it's the FLW Tour now........

Thats fine. The only show I cared much for was schooled with Denny Braeur. Also Bassmaster University was pretty good at times. I agree ESPN has ruined BASS. Too much show and talking smack and not enough fishing info

I'll agree that there might be some pro's making changes, but how can you say that FLW is where the money is? Last time I looked to either win a Bassmaster Classic or win a FLW Championship it pays $500,000 So, I would say they are both about the same when it comes to pay outs---unless I am missing something here. Look at the Elite series payouts and then look at the FLW payouts. They both pay $100,000 1st and you get $10,000 for making the top 50 in both circuits???? So, where is the money difference?

My opinion only, when alot more of the "BIG TIME PRO'S" move over to the FLW TOUR, the Sponsor's will go as well. Leaving ESPN out in the cold and feeling as though they aren't making enough money on they Pro's who have stayed behind... Check back in recent Championships of the FlW, they didn't pay $500,000 to the winner, didn't even come cloce to paying what the Bassmaster Classic Paid...But now they have caught they and will eventually pass them in due time... Only my opinion....

    RE: Basscenter gets the AXE!

Not much the sports mafia that is ESPN does surprises me. Look at other sports; if everything's quiet their talking heads will create a controversy out of some obscure sound byte to give themselves something to talk about. Seems to me they've tried to turn BASS into some kind of cross between NASCAR and WWF.

The ill fated boat racing was the first lead balloon. Then they broke up the federation after they found BASS didn't own it, and they couldn't make us do whatever they pleased. Now regular guys like Ike and Swindle have turned themselves into clowns with an attitude right out of the 'hood because that get's em ESPN camera time and supposedly attracts a younger following.

To their credit they've kept the Casting Kids program alive, but if there isn't a major infusion of young people as result of their strategy BASS will be sold off soon enough. I quit BASS during the Federation debacle, and almost never watch on Saturday mornings. In general if I have 4 hours available on the weekend I'd rather go fishing than watch it on TV.

I will say the times I've watched their fishing coverage it's been pretty darned good though. I saw Denny's 'Schooled' once and it was OK, but he criticized the anglers for doing the same things he does in tournaments and that turned me off a little. Did watch a Charlie Moore re-run of him fishing with Van Zant from Skynrd, and liked it.

I could be wrong but i think 2005 was the first year the bassmasters paid $500,000. The FLW has been paying that awile now and even paid $600,000 for 1 or 2 years. I believe the bassmasters is just now catching up.The FLW has had wrapped boats for awile now also, and from non fishing sponsors.

I also seen were citgo is leaving bass, and walmart is leaving FLW.

    RE: Basscenter gets the AXE!

I think that really #### about basscenter! I've been harping about bass saturday for a while now. don't know if i'll even waste tape or the time to type it.

as for bass or flw i'm not trying to make anyone mad but some people really need to do some research before posting.

This year was the first time for BASS to pay $500.000 for a classic.

FLW has paid this since 2003.

also even if the regular tours. are paying out the same for 1st or 50th place. Bass pays a whole lot more in entry fees almost double.

risk half the money for the same payout which one would you pick?

Also my personal opion is that the only reason Bass uped their classic payout and extended their season to 11 tournaments and 3 major's was because they were tried of seeing their big time poster boy pro's fishing both Bass and Flw.

    RE: Basscenter gets the AXE!

Should have been turned around on my wording on who paid out the money, my typing came out different than what my head was telling my fingers....Yes this past year was the first year Bass did pay out $500,000 to the Champion. I was wrong...my mistake, but not in knowledge...but typing info only... Why else would I have said what I did about the Pro's jumping ship to the FLW from BASS... Sometimes you got to see the whole picture before you, and what you read before you say what you say....Proof reading posts really helps as well... My opinion....

I brought up making a circuit with divisions. Top 75 or 100 in points would make the championship. You could do it a million different ways. $500,000 could turn into 1 mil. or more if you combined sponsers. Not like I would get to fish it but it would make for a better tv showing.

Are Bill Dance and Hank Parker still producing television shows?
