RE: Bad thing to a good person

El, I think this thread has said all that can be said. I only want to share that I too have lost family members to cancer of one sort or another. Brother to stomach cancer, Mom to lung and Dad to a cancerous brain tumor. I will keep you and your loved ones in my thoughts and prayers. I also pray you will find your faith and trust in Him.

I won't try to add much to what has been said except, the scriptures say that "the rain falls on the just and unjust alike." We'll never understand until we get to Heaven. And to get there you must trust Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior. Thats the first step folks the rest comes after.

And just one other thing, and I mean this with a sweet spirit, it's not the man upstairs. It's The Lord, God.

We too will pray for these folks that God's will will be done in their lives........

Though it is very difficult to accept, everything is a gift from God. This includes our families, our friends, and even our favorite fishing holes. We should not be discouraged by the amount of time that has been taken away by losing a loved one, but be grateful for the time that we had to share with them.

Two thoughts…..Be thankful for the amount of time that we get to take pleasure in God’s gifts and be more thankful that there is a greater life to share after this one.

the good book says that the rain falls on the just ANDunjust.bad things happen to good people. bad things happen to bad people, you just never hear about it. God is always in control and things like this happen for a reason. my grandad had 3 children under age 18 die. 1 in a coal mine accident (18) 1 by polio(6) 1 by a drunk driver getting out of a car coming home from church of all thing(13) he never never 1 time blamed god,all he ever said about to me was he guesed that god figured he could handle it and that his faith and family grew even stronger. he even dropped charges against the drunk driver said he felt sorry for him he had a family too. how often would you hear that?? stay strong and gods speed!!

RE: Bad thing to a good person

Here is a little different twist to this.

The lord God almighty is all knowing and all seeing. He has the power to create or stop all things. It is easy to blame God for all the things that happen.Do we believe that God caused 9-11 or the Devil.

If God wanted mankind to suffer he would not have sacrificed his only begotten son for our souls. If you have a son or daughter you may be able to imagine what it would be like to render them up for the benefit of all mankind. God does not want bad things for anyone,

While God is all powerful this does not mean that he is the only being with power. Satan has power also. Not as great as God his creator but power none the less. The devil spends almost zero time doing bad things to sinners AKA non believers. He works 24-7 trying to make Christians AKA believers doubt God.If by any means he can decieve ,torment, inflict pain or temptation on belivers he will do so. He already has the non believers so he spends his time trying to get the saved or soon to be saved to turn thier backs on God,

The standard answer is that God has a purpose for everything but maybe all things are not created or caused by God but by the Devil to discredit God or shake our faith.

I hope I have stated this in a way that is understandable. Fish2win

Elnutsmalljaw, I read this often to get through the day sometimes.
This is what the 23rd Psalm Means,

    The Lord is my Shepard,
    That's Relationship
    I shall not want,
    That's Supply
He maketh me lie down in green pastures,
    That's Rest
He leadeth me beside still waters,
    That's Refreshment
    He restoreth my sole,
    That's Healing
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness,
    That's Guidance
    For His name's sake,
    That's Purpose
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    That's Challenge
    I will fear no evil,
    That's Assurance
    For Thou art with me,
    That's Faithfulness
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me,
    That's Shelter
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies,
    That's Hope
Thou anointest my head with oil,
    That's Consegration
    My cup runneth over,
    That's Abundance
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
    That's Blessing
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord,
    That's Security
    Forever,
    That's Eternity.

This helps me in times when my Faith is tested. It happens to us all. The good Book says it will. God Bless you and your family, our prayers are with you. Andrew

I lost my daughter in law this year, they have a 13 yr old daughter, my favorite aunt also was taken with canxcer, and just 4 montrhs ago my wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.Thursday we go and sit with my brothwer in law who's wife is having major cancer surgery.Only one of those people smoked. You know I thought god was on vacation, but life goes on, and there is always sorrow, but the joyfull days are the ones remembered. My faith was tested when my first wife suffered a major stroke, and was paralized on her complete left side, those 5 years that I helped her life, are now some of the things that make me proud of myself, and thank that guy upstairs, Thy will be done.

RE: Bad thing to a good person

    I opened this thread not knowing the content of the reading that was inside. Upon reading many of these responses I was blessed and inspired by the outpouring of sympathy and love shown. As many here have stated, we all must go through trials and tribulations here on earth. What we can take solace in is the truth that there will be a place prepared for those who beleive that Christ Jesus died for our sins and allow him to live and work inside us. God bless you and I will pray for you and your family. The following is a poem by Maya Angelou that expresses wonderfully what it means to be a Christian;

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
    I'm whispering "I was lost,
    Now I'm found and forgiven."

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
    I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
    I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
    I'm not bragging of success.
    I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
    I'm not holier than thou,
    I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

RE: Bad thing to a good person

    Elwood,

If you offended anyone, it's their problem, not yours. No one, especially not a Christian, should ever be offended when someone speaks from their heart, as you obviously have.

At the core of it all is this--we are born separated from God. In our "natural" form, we are incomplete, ineffective and yes, wicked. By our own choosing, we live now in an imperfect world full of grief and pain and eventually death.

He offered us paradise on Earth, but we rejected that when free will and our pride got the better of us. The pain you're feeling, and the pain we all feel when those we love are hurting, all of that stems from that choice and the resulting separation between us and God.

The answer isn't to increase that separation--it's to bridge it. Don't curse God--ask Him for help. Help for your bro-in-law, his family, for you to be there for them and comfort them. It's hard for us to deal with sometimes, but God has three answers to prayer: "yes", "no", and "not right now".

And let me say this--it's okay to be angry at God. You're in some pretty good company when you are. The Psalmist himself said in 10:1--"Why, O Lord, do you stand afar off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?"

I believe God would rather have you angry at Him--and talking to Him--than trying to ignore Him, or even worse, *pretending* to love Him.

Take it up with God. He offers you and your loved ones hope, and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

    John

RE: Bad thing to a good person

I will keep you and your's in my prayers. My dad has lost one of his kidneys to cancer. Through the grace of GOD he is ok now. I to once questioned if there were a GOD. I was fishing below the Watts Bar Dam a few years ago when my boat was sunk by the turbines. Lucky that I let my father out of the boat 45 minutes earlier. I do not know if my dad could have made it. I do not know how long I was under water but in that time I came to know the LORD as my savior. With out a doubt in my mind there is a GOD in Heavon. When I let GOD into my heart its like I was just pulled to the surface of the water. My uncle was so upset he had thougt that I had drown I was down so long. I was told that I would never father a child but I have a new baby now after years of prayers. I just wish you and your family the best will keep you all in my prayers. GOD BLESS YOU
