    RE: New River /GreenBrier Trip.....

Have never had the opportunity to fish while I was there, but have rafted both the New and Gaully rivers. Great trips. Did you catch any of the golden trout that are in the river?

I don't think I was far enough upstream for the trout.

We camped and fished the New, Gaulie, and one called Meadow Ck. (I think) several years ago. Fishing was the same then. Lots of fish, not much size, but the most beautiful setting on the planet. We also went to a tail race somewhere in the area one day and caught several rainbows and a couple of the golden trout. (which I think is just an albino rainbow, but could be wrong) Always wondered why the smallmouth don't seem to get very big there. I guess I need to go back and FIND the bigger ones.

Well fellows keep talking and we'll have enough to take a trip over there. It really won't take a lot to get me to go back.
I have some awesome resources over there.

I hear that whole area is awesome for smallies and trout. Although I have yet to fish them, James and Little TN Rivers are said to be real good. If you go East to Virginia, about 4 hours from Charleston, Shenandoah River south fork can be really fun!!! Have had many 100+ fish days in June and September. The most memorable was a cloudy, rainy day float in September a few years ago. We caught 90 or so smallies. Nothing huge but about 80% were caught with a 1/8 oz white buzzbait. What a day it was!!!

Sounds like you had a blast, Billy. Have you ever been up that way and fished with Britt? I hear he's one of the best.
