Superstitions before you fish....................

OK just talked to a friend of mine and we were discussing some strange superstitions that we have before we fish........kind of like they do in other sports........ Lucky rabbit foots, four leaf clovers, Lucky hats or shirts. I once had a hat that was so ugly and awful my wife asked me to burn it repeatedly but I always seemed to have better luck when I wore it and would not part with it. None the less the hat disappeared strangely enough and couldn't catch fish for weeks .......not that it had anything to do with the fisherman LOL . Does anyone else have similar superstitions or have a story that goes along these lines.

I never want to catch a fish on the first cast- so I throw away from where I think fish are and reel the bait in quickly. I remind my fishing buddies to do the same.

I believe the first cast hex, also. A few years ago I fished a small club where a limit will get you in the money, and a 4+ kicker will get you big fish. My partner and myself had found a honey-hole and sure enough he caught one on the first cast. We finished the day with a nice limit with a 4 pounder. He rode me all the way back about the first cast fish and luck. Needless to say we finished out of the money and got beat for big fish by a nice 5 pounder.

I've slowly developed two:

1) I don't fill the livewells until I need them for a fish.

2) I don't get the net out until I catch a fish.

I'm not so sure either of these matter, but it seems I do even more poorly than normal if I do either of the two first.

Number 1 is adhered to the most, because a lot of the anglers that don't fish with me don't appreciate the net being put away when they catch that first fish! LOL

Oh yeah.... gotta breakdance on each catch.... LMAO... anyone who has seen me knows how NOT true that is.

That is an image that needs deleted...........where's the moderator for that. LMAO. Maybe you can try it for us all at the get together. That would be worth the price of admission alone.LOL

Years ago i found a ring while going into a tackle shop that i had to have when i fished tournaments. Once i realized i could lose as well as win with it i stopped the madness, still took several seasons to let it go.

If you're like me, you'll find that if you listen to Willie Nelson before you make the first cast, you'll catch more fish!!!! Preferably somethin from the "Redheaded Stranger" album. JoeB

--I burned my partner and myself a "Fishing CD" we had to listen to on the way to the lake and while we put in. If we had had a great night in the past, I included a song we had listened to on the way to the lake that night. The first song on the CD, and our theme song, was "Jump Around" by House of Pain, lol. We had great luck with the CD for a couple of years, but hit a slump last year. I don't even know where my copy is right now.

--It is a fact that various clothing items, shoes, hats, clip-on flashlights for night fishing, drinks, snacks, etc., catch fish and others do not. For a long time, our good luck charm was potted meat. We always had some in the boat. If it was a big tournament, we bought extra.

--We have a ritual handshake we do each time we leave our seats to get to our fishing decks.

--I have friend from overseas who knows absolutely nothing about fishing. He saw the membership card B.A.S.S. sends you that looks like a credit card with an image of a fish on it. He asked me if I showed it to the fish to prove to them I was a good fisherman. For very important tournaments, I used to carry the card and the large medallion B.A.S.S sent me when I joined. They worked for a while, but I got mad and threw them in the lake after we blanked and had boat trouble at our year-end classic a couple of years ago.

I always play Brad Paisley's song "I'm Gonna Miss Her" before I hit the water, kind of a tradition for me!

Also, I always keep the measuring board put away. Never ever leave it lying out! It's bad luck!

To the dismay of alot of partners, Inever leave the net or measuring board out. Always keep them in the rod locker.

I got quite a few, first and most importantly I never put a chew in till after I catch my first fish.
Last year I had to listen to Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy before the tournament to get fired up.
My normal partner and I also do the handshake deal before starting a tournament.....and there is something with the fishin rod and him getting baits out that gets us ready to fish.....

A couple of years ago my partner and I got on a roll and won 7 out of 10 tournaments, the first touranment I had on some superman boxers "Don't Mess With the S" and wore them all year... to answer the next question on your mind, I did wash them though I not that crazy.
