Mold in Rod Box

I got a 2005 Triton, and after having my rods stored in the rod box for a short time, I opened the box to remove a couple of rods. The reels had what seemed like mold growing on them and the butt handles of several rods. I don't store anything wet, when I put it up, and I haven't been out in the rain fishing any this year, so moisture isn't the problem in the rod box... Any idea's????:+

I would say that when you go on the lake to fish even if it is not raining you will still pick up moisture in all of your compartments, especially if you use the live well and then drain it there is still water in the line and walls of the wells. Then when you close all of the lids and cover the boat you are letting the moisture move around in the other compartments. You fishing line also will hold water and so will any baits you used. I always take my boat home and wash it down then I put it in the garrage with all of the lids open to let everything dry out. If you leave you boat out and it is covered it will still get moisture in the boat.

i have had that same proble with my tracker. i park it outside with the cover on it. i prop my rod box open with a big pole bobber. seems to dry out very well that way.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep my rod box and other compartments open, since I store my boat in the garage...

I have noticed that I get a gas and/or oil smell in all my boxes. My Triton is a 2002. What I do is keep a box of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda in each of the boxes as well. This helps absorb the smell and the moisture.
