Any reports on Cumberland for the last couple of days? Planning a fishin trip for Sat. and was wondering if anyone has been catchin anything there.:P
Hope this help, and hope it draws some comments from others cause I have not idea whats up.
I was there Sat thru Tuesday labor day weekend. Shiners were vait, got them from Adams on HWY 127 and Basspros. FYI, Jamestown had some, so if you run low you might want to check there, saves humping them.
Ran boards with 1 to 1.5 oz weights 40 to 60 feed back from the boards, slow trolled over points, and over about 100 foot of water. Ran a couple down poles at 60-75 feet. Fished very early morning 6am to 1200, then 7 pm to 12 pm each day to clear the monster boat traffic. Mouth of Wolfe, mouth of Lilly, and started one turn up in Wolfe out to the mouth, then to Lilly, then across the deep channel to the flats clear to Jamestown. Got one or 2 hits that felt more like big cats than Stripers, and not one hookup. Also fished 5 sets on bottom, on main lake in Humpy Hole right outside and on the right from Low Gap, across from there behind the litle island, 2 places up in the first turn of Caney, and on a bank at the Hog Pen on main lake. shiners on the bottom after a total of 5 spots, and 10 hours netted just 1 small cat fish, and one 7 lb drum, no stripers. Tuesday morning, went in to Greasy Creek behind State dock. Went in to the first left turn, in the bend, at the no wake bouys by the little pontoon boat dock there.
Was putting done a shiner to 28 foot, and trying to hookup the planer board to the line when the board jump out of my hands and took off across the water. No striper, just a 9 lb Drum! Went to put the same line out again with a shiner, back to 28 foot, and before I could get the board in, it got hit, and an 8lb drum was the result. I did manage to get 3 more down poles baited and out to 28 foot, no boards, before the third one out bent down. Another Drum, this time 12 lbs. Over the next 30 miuntes, we had 5 more downs, all shiners at 25 to 35 feet, just drifting, no trolling motor on, but now they were all (5 in a row) Channels Cats smallest 5 lbs, and biggest ran about 12 lbs. All that from about 900 am to 1000 am.
I have no earthly idea why I could not hook up a Striper on the main lake, Greasy, Wolfs, Lilly, Caney or bottom fishing. I zig-zagged, Iset still, then did short dashes to prompt reaction strikes. I jigged Thompson spoons. Fish finder said the channels had bait, and fish running from 10 foot to 50 foot, then a dead space, then more one the bottom suspending. Lights put out brought up so much shad at times the fish finder couldn't find the bottom, and I dropped lines just below the bait cloud. Still nothing.
So hope this helps some way, and anybody else out there, feel free to tell me what the !@$#!@$@$ I did wrong. Only thing I can think of is I didn't have my ZZ top CD along, and we ran out of beer the first night while still in the motel room.
