    need some help

i have a 150 mercury and the trim will not work. i thought it might be a wiring problem but it all checked out. the trim switch on the motor works fine but the one at the steering wheel and the one at the front of the boat will only trim down. it just started doing this and i have never had one do this before. its hard to figure out because when i have it out of the water all the trims seem to work most of the time. any help at all would be great. thank you.

    RE: need some help

more than likely the up wire, blue one is either broke or a bad connection,i don't know if this motorhas relays like the omcs or not if so find them, switch them around and see if it goes upand not down if so there is your problem.they are little square boxes mounted on the engine, the old ones didn't use them.if it has relays buy them at the auto parts store, they can match them up and are much cheaper than a marine store last one i got for my omc was about $8 cheaper.to check your switches at the front and helm get a continuity tester, unhook wires on the engine,pu a meter lead on the power wire, and the blue wire hit the up switch, should get continuity, switch to the green wire, should get continuity, when not up or down no continuity.
    hope this helps

    RE: need some help

I have read about other's having this same type of problem. From what I read the up relay gets more work than the down relay and goes out first. So that may be the problem. Switch the relays and see if that's the problem and then if it is just get a couple of new relays and replace them both.

thanks guys for the help. i checked my relays and they seem to work fine the switch on the engine will raise and lower the motor and each one clicks in. i guess my problem is in my wiring. as bad as i hate to (lol) i have to track it down. if you have any other input i would be glad to listen. motor is a 2002 150 mercury.
