Losing Crankbaits...

Could i get some recommendations on the best tool i can use to retrieve crankbaits. I have lost a DT10 on three consecutive trips. I have tried a few methods but someone has to have a time tested method, if so please let me know because this is getting out of hand and very frustrating. :-( x( :-(

i make my own with egg sinkers like they use saltwater fishin.Take a piece of wire run through the sinkere and bend a loop in it,so it works like the store bought knockers,plug knockers, get your mind out of the gutter.put it on your line hold it tight with the rod let it hit and shazaaam you get your bait back,now if 1 don't work put on another and shake it i have never used more than two and have only lost a handfull of baits,mostly suspend dd's i havn't got back.the sinkers i use are the size of small chicken eggs.i guess you could rig a string on it so you can retrieve it but i don't.

I do the same thing Don except I go buy some 1 1/2 oz bass casting sinkers(have the line tie built in) and put a snap on them,snap it on the line, get as close as you can to being centered over the bait and drop it.... it works for me 9 out of 10 times, put if you've already put alot of pressure on the bait setting the hooks in stumps etc.... nothing really works well :-)

Thanks Guys, I will have to try that method. If my bait is stuck in water 6ft or less i can usually get it back by popping my line or pushing my rod to the bait. Of course using the rod can get expensive if you bust a rod tip trying to save a $7 lure.

I made my own retriever with a very similar method. One thing I did was to use an old broken rod and an old reel to keep the lure retriever handy in the boat, and easy to reel the retriever back in. I use braided line. I bought several of the sinkers, kind of a tear drop design for bottom fishing, large snap swivel and some black electricians tape to keep them bound together. Works great.

try a old sparkplug put a snap swivel on it the cheepest plug knocker I've found, a good buddy of mine "ole perch jerker" turned me on to it. Happy huntin

I don't even own a plug knocker but it I did, I world tie it to one of those retractable dog leashes, that way you don't loose if it was to come un-secured from your line. I heard this somewhere but don't remember.

I broke down and bought a retriever from bp a couple years ago and can tell you that it has saved me a small fortune not only in crankbait but but jigs and other baits as well.It makes no difference made or bought I never go without one now.I like my bandit cranks to much to lose needlessly.

The Bass Pro retriever that looks like a crankbait with chains hanging from it works great!!! It's about $7.00 comes with a line winder and has paid for itself over and over! I highly recommend it. It really shines at getting those DD22's and DT16's out of deep water. Haven't lost a crank since I bought it....4 years ago!

Rest assured i have lost enough for two or three fisherman! I am going to load up on the sinkers that slide down the line and the factory made lure retriever. Losing a favorite crankbait hurts....

I have a 18ft retractable pole from basspro works great. I also have the one with the chains too in current it does not work well for me. But I have saved so many crankbaits I cant count works on jigs to. I even use it to get my tungsten weights back when worming. Good luck to you
