Knots

There are a lot of knots a man can tie, while each one serves a specific purpose, there are others that do the same job but they're tied in a different manner. Just kind of curious to see what everyone's "go to" knot is. What I mean by "go to" knot is this: "What knot do you usually tie the most without even thinking about it or the knot that you could tie in your sleep (or at least with your eye's closed anyway).

Hands down the Polamar, imo best all around and won't come undue.... But I have heard of a type in an oak tree can come in handy, a little hard, but you know I bet a knot in a Gum tree might be a little more softer, if the situation arose and it came right down to it...HA HA HA lol

palomar on everything but a chugger then i tie and improved clinch knot. just seems to make the bait work better.

When using Mono line i tie the Palomar on all baits except topwater then i use another knot which i believe is called a Loopknot? Not really sure but i tie it and have never had it fail. I also use the Palomar on my braided lines and have never had that fail.

Palomar Knot for me. Buddy timed me in 14 seconds to tie on a jig, at night, with very little light. All that means is that I have lots of experience losing jigs and have tied it a million times. I even use it on my carolina rig, tie the swivel and hook first then palomar the whole assembly thru the main line. I personally think it is the best know around, provided you wet the line before cinching down.

I have a hard time getting the Palomar to clinch on the P-line and Suffix.. I love that knot though :7

Palomar most of the time however I started using the "berkley braid knot" this year on floro and braid and it has worked as good or better

Never used Suffix but used P Line for the past couple of years and never had a problem. Wet the line before cinching is the only thing I can tell you. It helps give some lubrication to cinch but will cut down on the heat when cincing as well.

Improved clinch. I know the palomar is better, but I've been tying the clinch since I was 7 years old and I can tie it in my sleep.

I recently was down at Dale and was using a palomar knot on Berkley XL and I lost two fish because the knot came untied. I have been using the palomar knot for years without any problems so this left me shaking my head. What I have started doing is running the line through the loop twice and then over the hook and this give double the strength to prevent any slipping. I have no explanation for the failure.

As others have said, I use the Polamar except for action type baits. I do not worry about how fast I can tie it. I am very careful to make sure the line through the eye and over the eye do not cross and snugs down tight. I wet everything before I close it down and pull the excess out with the tag and not my line to the hook. I have had this knot fail in only one situation. That is with old line.
