I fished Green today from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It was a blue bird day. Morning air temps low 50s / 70s by afternoon. Wind was calm all day. Surface water temperature varied between 67.4º to 68.8º F. The water level was at 676.5 (summer pool is 675). The water was stained everywhere we went. I could see my crank baits around 2’ under the surface.
Sonar showed fish scattered between surface and 19’ depth (largest population of fish seemed to be between 4’ to 12’. I also saw concentrations of bait fish near the surface in several areas.
Honey holes and brush piles very slow today. Caught 3 small and 2 keeper Crappie (on minnows) at about 8’ to 10‘. Used crappie rig with split shot about 3’ above hook. We found a flat area (water depth 4’ to 7’) up passed Holmes Bend that was loaded with very large fish but couldn’t get them to take anything. Several other boats were in the same area w/ similar luck.
Trolled some crank baits (chartreuse) along banks and drop offs next to channel going toward the dam and landed 2 hybrids 1/10” & 1/12” and a nice large mouth 14”.
We talked to 3 other boats to see how they were doing. The first boat w/ two guys had caught and released several small Crappie (no keepers). They were using various Crappie jigs. The second bass boat w/ two people had caught 1/Walleye 15”, and 2 Smallmouth. The third boat hadn’t had any luck yet.
Hope this helps anybody going out to Green. Be careful, lots of big logs and floaters out there today.
