KY lake Wed.

I was planning on fishing below Barkley dam Wed. but opted to try crappie on Ky. Fished n. Ky. LBL side. We kept 17 nice crappie. Caught a few around 10' deep early. Most fish came from 15' to 25' feet after sun got high. The bite shut down about 2:00. Minnow tipped jigs fished around wood. I saw a fella with 5 nice Blue cats he caught on river channel ledge. Great day to be on the lake.

I was down too, but I opted for Barkley. I put in at Mineral Mounds, and the water temps were around 64 degrees. I didn't want to start in the back of the bay, just too much bait fish activity... LMAO. Actually there were a lot of shad flipping, but saw no sign of predators hunting. Saw several folks fishing, and none said they were catching anything. I headed to the mouth of Kutawa harbor, and fished the break waters. Nothing. The water was cooler in the main lake, and much dingier. Still nothing. The depth finder was going crazy with all kinds of returns, but none of those "ghosts" would get hooked up on my bait.

Moved to another bay that has always held good fish. It too had several people fishing. I fished the entire cove, nothing. Talked to everyone there, and no one said they caught anything, but had caught some the day before. The water in this bay too was a little cooler than Kutawa harbor.

I ended up fishing for around 4 hours, and it seemed like 785 casts later, I put the boat on the trailer. It was cold, windy, and cloudy all morning. I ran about 2 miles back to the ramp, and by the time I had my boat on the trailer, not a cloud was left in the sky.

Maybe that turned the bass on, not sure. I just know I had a nice time on a cool windy, dark day.... and missed out on the nicer afternoon!! LOL
