Can anybody tell me anything about the new Berkley Fireline Crystal?
I need to re-spool my FNF reels...I'm usually a Berkley Vanish man for FNF, but wondering what the 6/2 Fireline Crystal would be like.
Anybody?

Anybody?
Berkley's marketing team makes it sound pretty good. Low memory and 2lb diameter with 6lb test strength.
I read about this new for 2007 fishing line in Crappie World this quarter. Volume 17 Issue 5.
Looks good on paper! I too am interested to know if anyone has tried it and liked it?
APB uses it on his creek rod. I watched him sling it mosat of the summer on a baitcaster. After watching him use it, it will be what I'll switch to when and if I decide to go braid on my F-n-F rig.
Which at the present time I really don't see any reason too.

I was just thinking that since I'm not a big 3-way swivel fan, the braid straight from spool to jig would give me some more strength...especially attaching float directly to line...might improve casting distance too.
As long as it's CRYSTAL clear and as low-key as Vanish.
i want to know about this too. i love fireline and if they have made it clear i'm in.
It's not clear, but it's closer than it used to be. It was recently named the top product at some national conference (saw that in Field & Stream).
Its just like regular Fireline, but without the colored dye. If you like Fireline, you'll like this stuff. I'm not convinced that the "crystal" is not just another marketing ploy. I picked it up by accident when I needed to respool. If you need something real clear at the lure, you'll want flurocarbon line.
Andrew
APB,
That told me what I needed to know.
I'm sticking with Vanish.
It seems to me you could gain a little advantage by getting the 8 lb test which has the diameter of 3 lb. If that world record was on the end of your line and sweat beads were turning into a river on your forhead, you just might give your last cent for a little advantage.
Fireline is great stuff. It is not a fnf line though without a leader. It is too bouyant a line and the tag "chrystal" is very misleading. It is white out of water and in the water also. I see no diffrence in visibility in it and "smoke".
I've posted this several times, but we have a lot of new posters, and I won't post the entire thing, but here is what Doug Hannon, the bass professor has to say about the line visibility.
He says that a bass' optic nerves and brain stem are not developed enough to see any line that is not at least as thick as a nickle, unless it happens to be a very flourescent line. He suggests that the smaller lines produce more strikes because of the added action the limper line allows.
I saw this on ESPN, and never saw it again. I always figured some line company that buys sponsorship on ESPN got upset, so I searched for quite some time until I found Doug's email address. I emailed him a question about how I remembered explaination, and he answered confirming what I remembered.
One other thing, we constantly hear about the sensitivity of the latteral line. If it is as sensitive as we have all heard, could it be the fish "feels" the line coming through the water? Just a thought.
I hope whatever you fish with loads the boat.
Tight lines and God Bless
Danny
This has been a topic on my mind since I was a kid. I have always been paranoid about fish seeing my line. I am not as smart about these topics as Doug Hanah, but I find it hard to belive that they will not shy away from a slow moving bait, jig grub etc... in clear highland lakes. I have taken people to Dale with me that have never fished it and would not belive me that they should use 6 pound test.
They showed up with 10, even 8 pound test and have outfished them 3 fish to 1. Now I do belive on a jerkbait or crank, even burning a spinnerbait, that you can get away with 8 to 10. The only problem is, you'r bait will not go as deep.
Just my opinion,
God Bless Our Soldiers!
Keith
