I have about 7 or 8 Quantum 1310 QMC reels (bought from Walmart for 54.00) * now they are on sale for $ 45.00 * that I really like to use. I have one set up for just about anything I want to throw to catch Bass or anything else that might bite my lure.... I also have several Quantum Rods from 5'6" MH to 6'6" Med, MH, Heavy rating. I don't use any line bigger than 20lb test and have never had a fish break me off, since i have my drag set to let the fish have line if need be. I also have one of those Quantum Crankin Reels that I bought back in 1986 while stationed at Fort Lee, Va. still works as great today as it did the day I bought it... Just my opinion, but I would never in the life of me spend anymore than the amount I have spent on the 1310's for reels...Don't see the need for them....
i cant speak on the shimano's personally because i dont own one, but i can tell you about the quantum's (the ones i own anyway). I have 1 of the KVD reels (big sale at BPS couldnt pass on it) and 2 of the accurists. i bought all 3 on sale and they were around 80 or so when i bought them. they are the smoothest and longest casting reels that i own. I would put them up against anything else in that price range. i can put the same bait on a much higher priced diawa that i have and they will outcast it by 20 yards. i love those particualr reels. i'm not for spending $200 on a reel, i just cant make myself fork out that much cabbage but that price range these are awesome.
I have 3 spinning reels and 2 baitcasters and love all of them. Never had a problem.
I have two Quantum baitcasters. No problems very smooth at a price that I am willing to pay <$100. If I were to buy another reel tomorrow it would likely be a Quantum. Both of mine are the low profile types.
Good Luck to You!

I have a Quatum Energy PT and so far it has performed very well.
I have 4 of the Quantum Energys and 2 of the Catlyst PTI spinning reels. I like the energy reels way better than the bps brand reels I used in the past. I have a shimano curado and really like it too. Prefer the shimano as I feel its made a little better.
The catalyst PTI reels are the best spinning reels i've owned. they are very smooth and haven't had a lick of trouble with the bail after 4 years.
All I use is Quantum and have virtually one or more of every model. i know this sounds like b*&*hit but it's true. I have been collecting for years. The most expensive I have ever bought is the new Burner which does a great job but too pricey for me to buy another. I can still get parts for my old 381-441-621-1310-1420's love them all. I have even super tuned a few old ones and painted them with wild colors which never fail to get a response when I am at the dock.Used to be a Daiwa fan and then tried Shimano great reels just tooooo expensive.
Thanks so much for the info guys! I'm looking to buy some of the Tour Edition PT reels with the new Burner gears (7.1:1) and two or three with the regular gears (6.3:1).
Sounds like Quantum makes some good quality stuff based on everyone's feedback!
Anyone ever use any of the rods? I'm looking at the Tour Edition PT rods, particularly the Kevin Van Dam and Gerald Swindle signature series rods - are they really that good of a rod?
I don't know about their rods but I have one of the Tour Edition PT reels(6.3:1) on a 6'6" G. Loomis IMX and I love it. The reel is very smooth and casts great. I also have an older Shimano Curado super free and it doesn't hold a candle to my Quantum.
So how much do you want for that Curado?
