    RE: Thoughts/opinions on G-Loomis rods

If you are looking for a G Loomis panfish rod you may seriously want to consider the SJR700S. I liked mine so well I bought a second one. It is a 5'10" mag-light GL3 blank and it is an awesome light rod. What you described is exactly how I use these rods. Small 1.5" - 2" cranks or small jigs for bluegill, bass, and crappie. Catch a 12" smallie on these rods and it is an absolute blast! I put Daiwa SSII 1500s on these rods and they are my sweet hearts. I caught a 5 lb smallie last spring on KY using an 1/8 oz curly tail and 4 lb line and I still grin from ear-to-ear when I think about that!

I also have a SJR6400S which is a shorter mag-light action rod with a tennessee handle and the SJR720 light action. Again I prefer the "mag-light" action over "light" because the rod is faster (less whippy) and the 5'10" length is better over the shorter rod. I have yet to hold another light rod that holds a candle to the SJR700S.

So many Loomis rods, so little time!

    RE: Thoughts/opinions on G-Loomis rods

Looking back at my post I realized I made a small mistake. The SJR720 is also a "mag-light" action but comparing this rod to the SJR700S the 720 is a stiffer and slightly heavier. The SJR720 I have is a GL2 blank vs a GL3 blank for the SJR700S. Neither rod is whippy but the SJR700 just has better feel to me being slightly lighter. But you can't go wrong with either.

    RE: Thoughts/opinions on G-Loomis rods

Thanks for the input. I spoke to a person yesterday ay G-Loomis about the 2 rods(sr720 and sjr720) and it sounds like the sjr720 is the one I am looking for so I called a guy at Dicks Sporting Goods yesterday and he was going to see if they had those in stock so I could compare but he never left me a message so that's where I am at. At $115(sr720) and $130(sjr720) there is not much difference either way so I am ready to go look.

What I hope is after I choose one and use it I will start swapping out my old bass rods each year(I currently have All-Star and really like them and have not had any problems....correction very few I have had a couple tips come loose)with new G-Loomis rods. My wife/family has trouble finding things to buy for X-mas each year and this would be a great thing as I would not normally spend that on myself.

    Thx,Max

You might try Bullfrog creek if you want to see the rods first. That's where I purchased mine and they usually have a good variety on hand.

Once you start on Loomis rods you can't stop. I remember when my fishing buddy bought his first one and I said I would never spend that much on a rod. The he whooped my butt jig fishing because he could feel the light bites and I couldn't. After I whined for a while he let me try that Loomis CR784 and man what a difference. I bet I have 15 of them now. I just pick up one or two each year and add to my collection. I don't have any two the same except for the SJR700s. If you do go somewhere that has selection be sure to compare that model to the SJR720 or SR720. Similar but the 700 is a tad lighter. But you won't be disappointed with either.

They make bluegill rods I'm sure you can do something better with your money than buy a Loomis Bluegill rod. Bass fishing go for it cause I wouldnt trade mine for anything. If I were u I'd buy em a new Zebco they have made vast improvements on them from when I was first learning to fish. Yet it's your moeny just some advice.

    RE: Thoughts/opinions on G-Loomis rods

    RC,
Thanks for the opinion. I have a couple of the cheaper rods now and they work fine. I was actually looking at the BPS catalog last night and was looking at their spinnerbait rods as well. Still not sure if I am going to buy the bluegill rods or not? Probably will.

I am a person that believes in life that for the most part you get what you pay for $20 rod= $20 rod. My wife/I enjoy bluegill fishing together and if the rod, likely unknowingly to her, makes her and my day a little more enjoyable because she can throw a little more accurately or the bobber stop doesn't catch the guides as bad then it is money well spent.

Can I afford the rods? I think so but I also think that people afford what they want to afford. I can say that if we buy 1 or a dozen Loomis rods we aren't taking money from our retirement, grandkdis, etc. so I think we just need to decide to buy/not.

I do really appreciate the thoughts/opinions of everyone. One thing I did find interesting is that people seemed to think it was OK to purchase them to bass fish but not bluegill. From a fishing standpoint I agree and understand that.

you certainly could not go wrong, in buying a g-loomis rod. i have
5 or 6 of them, but have only one spinning or ultra-lite model. you
might keep in mind, that shimano bought out g-looomis and are making
the crucial rods on those machines now, but the blanks are different.
you might also consider the st.croix premier line. they make an
outstanding spinning rod for the money. though it may be a little
heavyier than the g-loomis. if you do get a g-loomis you will be
happy i'm sure, as everyone has said, you couldn't go wrong.

by-the-way charlie, if you read this, you got any green line, or
    green lizards? lol lol.

    buddyp looking for the bite!!!!
