We went out with Bates a couple of years ago and he did a great job for us. He put us on fish and it was the 1st week of Feb. and he hadn't been out hardly at all because he was doing shows. He is alot of fun to fish with also. He doesn't mind answering your questions either. Good luck.

If you really want to have some fun striper fishing next year go in April and May when the shad start working the banks at nite.Go get some slivers in black and white and blue and white and get ready for some fun because there is nothing that hits a crankbait like they do plus you can also catch good sized walleyes on these baits and you never know what size striper you are gonna get.

Thanks. I'm really looking forward to thursday.
Yeah I found out the hard way about the walleye up shallow at
night in the summer. Was out fishing for bass and 10 minutes out
hung into what I thought was a good one. 6lb test, didn't want to horse him, got it to the boat and to my surprise about a 24"-26"
walleye, 2 spins and snap he was gone. Didn't have anything bigger in the boat or any kind of leaders, broke out another 5 in the same size range and a little bigger. After no bass and being broke off 6 times I went to the house. As far as stripers I'm still making an effort.
Just hope the weather cooperates and we find fish. Just once would love to tangle with one of the big guys.
    Thanks again,
    TCB

Does anyone here know what the stocking rate/schedule is rate for Cumberland Stripers?

I'm just curious to know because as Elwood has stated before, there is a plethora of Striper guides on the lake, this is not counting the average everyday Fisherman seeking to put some meat in the freezer. If you check out the website for Bates Guide Service you will see they keep new pictures posted on a regularly basis...all in all it looks to me like there are a lot of Striper being taken out down there. I also wonder what the average size is for the Stripers caught down there now...on a regularly back in the 80's there were some real bruisers taken to the taxidermist, I know this for a fact. Most of the pictures on Bates website looks like most of the fish are in the 8lb to 15lb category with very few "true trophy's", of course I guess everyone's opinion of a trophy varies.

KDFWR usually puts 200 to 250 thousand per year in the lake. According to them this and the two fish per person limit per day should keep the fishery viable for years to come. There are several year classes available in the lake and this year has shown well. There have been quite a few 40 lber's caught from the lake this year that have been documented through the guide services and individuals.
