    Drop Shot rigs

When using a drop shot rig what do you guys typically use for bait, do you use live bait, grubs, flukes or all of the above?

In what conditions do you typically use this rig?

I have had good luck using Berkley gulp minnows and sweepers in shad colors. 4" finesse worms in green pumpkin and BassPro dropshot minnows too.

    RE: Drop Shot rigs

Drop shot rigs are good in clearer water and in and or around pebble rock or chunk rock banks. You can cast into the bank and work out or mark some fish on depth finder in deeper water and fish them around cover, laydowns, etc.

BPS drop shot minnow and their creature. As Bassky said clear water helps alot. There have been times when drop shotting can be used in a flipping, pitching presentation, mostly during a finicky bite during the spawn.JMHO

    RE: Drop Shot rigs

Drop shot rigs are a sure fire way to hook up on some Ky bass, primarily around bridge pilings. I typically use the Zoom Fish Doctor or a Chompers Drop Shot worm. It helps for filling a limit on those slow days and when the largemouth aren't cooperating. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses...Since posting this thread I have read up on the subject a little bit and from what I'm reading it sounds just like what you all said, a good clear water rig, especially if the water is deeper than 12' to 15'.

Culprit drop shot worm, Chompers drop shot worm, Zoom meathead. I only fish downshot style as a last resort. Good winter technique.

Tim the dropshot has become my favorit way to bass fish and the best bait that I have found is a 4 inch worm in green pumpkin or watermelon are very good color's to to use but the worm meeds to be slim so you have a lot of action some of my favorites are cabin creek - robo- prowler is one that I helped develop I fish thes worms on a 1'0 light wire hook riged TX. style so I can fish in cover.I like 8lb test most of the time.I have won over 40'000.00 dollars on the dropshot rig John Crase
