Well, I made it to Barkley for a few hours yesterday, and more than anything, I looked for schools of bait fish in the bays, and fished near and/or creek channels.
I took a 1/4 oz darter jig head, as my primary bait, and a curl tail grub. I dyed the tail chartruese, then swam the bait through or actually just below the bait fish balls in the bays and bammmmOO!!! I hooked several nice fish... many shorts too. But then I've never had a bad fish...LOL
I had some problems with my temp guage up front on the boat, so I paid little attention to that, and looked for the bait fish.
Other baits that did produce some fish for me: samll hard jerkbait in blue/chartruese, fluke, and a slow rolled spinnerbait in a transluecent blue.
Perfect day for my part.
Good luck to anyone else that heads to the water before this hard cold front gets here.
No pictures, my partner could not make the trip, but maybe next time. Besides, really no huge bass... I'd say 3 - 3.5 was probably the biggest. I only fished about 4 or maybe 5 hours, but had plenty of fish, and a few of those small stripers or hybrids.. never could really tell them apart from each other, and they the white bass too... LOL Biggest of those was about 2 lbs, but on spinning gear, it was the most fun.
Tight lines and God Bless
Danny
