    RE: FNF Bobber Modification

No problem with making your own........BUT you really ought to at least purchase a few from Bob, since he came up with the idea........and have your friends who also F-n-F buy some BEFORE making their own.

It's these little tips and ideas that make the sport GREAT, but think how different F-n-F fishing would be IF Bob had NOT created the bobber, and IF he had not started selling them.

    Just a thought..........

BTW......I, TOO make some of my own, but have purchase MORE than my share of the REAL thing. I also make some bobbers out of a BIGGER bobber. I can get more distance, and sometimes it is easier to DEFINITELY see and feel the bite for first timers.

Careful with the postion of the weight. If you want to use the 3 way swivel always test them. You want the bobber to lay on its side with the swivel attached. Only the weight of the fly should stand it up.

    RE: FNF Bobber Modification

Billy is correct and I stand corrected. The steps I give above is if you are hooking the bobber directly to the line and not using the 3-way swivel method. I will be using the 3-way rig this winter for the first time and will be re-testing my bobbers with the swivel attached to see if they lay flat with the swivel. I may find that all of mine won't work with the swivel and will have to make some more and position the weight in the center or slightly above the center point taking into consideration the swivel will add some weight that was not there before for me.

Just a quick side note, Bob Coan designed the bobber but I was told by a very "Good Authority" that he did not patent it nor does he get any procees from the sell of them. One of Bob's guide friends stopped in to see me last year when I was staying at John's Cabin, no it was not John, and saw me making some bobbers and he suggested using a soldering iron with a roof nail for the tip to melt the center of the bobber where the weight is placed.

I use a drill bit two sizes smaller than the weight. YOU will not need to attach it to a drill, but simply hold it in your hand and jus twist. Be careful, you don't wnat to take out to much foam.

Another thing to remember about a patent, any one can copy anything they want(patented)...as long as they don't do it to profit.
