Bet? What bet? Oh yeah, now I remember. How the heck did I get rooked into betting against a man of the cloth? What was I thinking? Me and my big mouth. Or in this case fat fingers. The only good thing about the cowpies are their cheerleaders. I'll be looking forward to going fishing one way or the other Pastorbass, although I didn't say what would happen to that hat after I have to wear it. I gotta wipe the scum line off the boat with something.
As Mr. Bean mentioned we had our club fish off yesterday at Barren. The weather was bitterly cold, but the fishing was good. This is the time of year on Barren when you don't necessarily get as many bites, but the ones you get are some good uns. The 7 of us who were qualified for the classic weighed in 70 lbs of fish, and the guy who won had almost 20lbs. Jason dashed my hopes of getting big fish by bringing up a big nasty fat sow over 5lbs in his bag of fish and took big fish and second place money.
I did have a good time rasslin in a smallie almost 4 lbs and had a couple of largemouth to go with her, but my 6 lbs 10 oz wasn't even close. I finished 6th of 7. It was one of those days when I couldn't stay hooked up. Prolly missed 5 or 6, and you can't be missing bites when you're fishing against that bunch if you want a chance to win. I have a standing $5 bet with the guy who won, and for once I didn't soak the cash in garlic dye or throw it in his bag of fish, just slapped him on the back and handed it over. Everything in the boy's sack was over 3 lbs, I just couldn't bring myself to abuse his money this time.
Another year in the books for the SOKY Bassmasters, and I sure did enjoy it. What a bunch of good people.
