Question About the Shakey Head

Guys and Gals,
what is the best type of jig head to used for rigging the shakey head? I dont know if what I am using now is too big or small, it just does not look the way I have seen it rigged before in mags, books, or TV.I have some jig heads that look too long and the other ones seem too small. any info would be appreciated, thanks.

1/4 ounce screwed-up jighead by reaction innovations, the rigging is pretty obvious from the looks of the head but they come through the water great and feel alot better than any other jighead I have experienced. IMO

I am not trying to advertise, but since you asked. Contact Bryon Simmons at www.daimonlures.com He makes about every jig head available and is very reasonable. He has just about every "shakey head" jig made. He just came out with his copy of the "screwed up" jig head by Reaction Innovations. Looks to be a good one.

I know this will draw some comments but before I make my comment let me preface it with the following. I have been a jig/worm fisherman for proably 30+ years it IS my go to bait. I started fishing it before Charlie brewer came out with a great design. I switched to his and still to this day use it. The best head in my humble opinion is one that you can throw the distance you need .one that will not easily get hung up and one that will make the worm float in the up position. Having said all that I buy factory made walmart standup jigs with wire hooks, bend the wire hook back on itself to slid the head of the worm on and texpose the worm on the hook. I feel it is the where and how more than the jig itsself. This past summer during the dogdays this combo accounted for many bass from 3 to 7lbs in 18'-26' fished slowly on a drag.

Hey Stratos, I apologize for my ignorance, but what is the Charlie Brewer design? I enjoy using the shaky head method but I tend to hang up a lot. I am going to get some of the WalMart jigs and give it a try. Nice tip.:-)

The shakey head's name comes from the jig head itself. The shakey head jig is a round head with a long shank and the tie eye on the side. It lands on it's side with the hook sticking up or out. Fished most often with a floating worm, the tail floats and is more visible to the fish. I bounce it along the bottom like a tube or regular jig. It's deadly on bass, particularly so on spots.

Charlie Brewer's slider has a long hook shank but the head is painted and more flattened. It too keeps the worm sticking up more than a weight with the eye on front. Slider worms perfect for rigging the jig can be bought with it. Back when I used the slider, I fished a 4 " straight tailed floating worm on it and slowly swam it along letting it pause in the bottom every so often. It is also deadly on bass. Charlie Brewer passed away, but the slider rig lives on.

Both of these are IMO great finesse tools. If you can't get bit on a tube or one of the above methods, you're in for a long day.

i ordered $60.00 worth of jigheads from www.daimonlures.com on november 21,2006 and have'nt seen them yet!!! only time i heard anything from him was when i emailed him wondering what was going on! then get a story about some supplier!very dissatisfied,luckily paid with paypal and hopefully will recover!

try the Tourney Jigs, they have a better spring that holds the worm on,priced right too, they worked for me.
