Fluorocarbon vs Mono

I use it for pitching,flipping, and the bottom leader on my Float n Fly rig, it is very sensitive and I can detect more bites. But watch out for the dreaded backlash (AKA Profesional Overthrough). You can loose $20 worth of line in a heartbeat. I can get them out in mono but have failed numerous times with fluorocarbon.

If the problem isn't the line than I wouldnt have trouble with any other brand. Ive tried and tried and even re-tried certain other brands of flouro with the same results. Ive broken my line several times when the break was nowhere near the knot. Flouro naturally has less shock resistance than mono b/c of its stiffer characteristics. Some flouros however just deal with shock resistance much better than others. Drew

Drew even when I use 30lb test I won't my drag to slip just a littel bit on the hook set so I don't break fish off.

If I were using a 30lb test line that would break when I lock the drag down and set the hook I would def. change lines. With 20lb I can lock it down and set the hook as hard as I want and never have to worry about breaking it. Even when my drag is locked down as far as it will go, a big fish will still pull drag. But, I also like making sure the hook is buried in the fish's mouth. Ex..... I was fishing a private lake early this spring with a friend. Average fish is 2-4lbs and several 5's in the lake. We were flipping overhangs when I get nailed. I pick up on the fish and it spits my jig so I keep working it to the boat (2 ft of water) and as soon as the jig gets below the boat.... He nails it again. I literally took a baseball bat swing with the rod. Needless to say the 7' Heavy action GLX broke 3" above the reel handle while the 4lb fish flew into the boat on the hookset. Rod broke-line did not. I laughed much more than I cried on this one lol. Id say thats a pretty durable line to break the rod before it gives. It wouldnt make any sense for me to start changing things around when I've found a line that works so well for me. I can fish it comfortably from 1 ft to 40 ft and wouldnt use another line if I were paid to.

I've fished Pline Floroclear and Yozuri hyrids for a number of years now and recommend both. They are not pure FC's. They are both fairly cheap. They both break above rating. 8lb Yozuri for example breaks at 12.5lbs or about the same as the 10# Pline Floroclear. Diameter to strenght ratio- Pline and Yozuri hybrids are as good as it gets. If you go with Yozuri for a spinning reel, get the Soft version. These lines have less stretch then mono too.

Pure FC sinks but normally takes a bigger diameter to be as strong as one of the hybrids above. Many a fish have been lost on pure FC and many, repeat many, cheap FC's are on the market. The only one I've had any luck with is Gamma EDGE. I hear good reviews on Sunline Sniper as well but have not used it. Reduced stretch is the only advantage I've concluded in pure FC. Having seen the pure FC and hybrid underwater, i don't think the pure FC any more invisible.

Most people I know that have tried the floroclear or yozuri now make it the standard line and maybe use a braid of pure FC on a rod or too for a specific purpose.
