    Canada Bass Fishing

My sister wants to send her husband on a fishing trip to Canada for his 50th birthday. I have never been on a trip like that and thought some of you could help point us in the right direction. He would be fishing for bass and would prefer a guide. Thanks Ryan.

I went to bear lake wilderness camp a few years back, they have a website www.blwc.com and they are usually at the boat show too.we stayed there and used portage trails to lakes all around you will have to walk a anywhere from half mile to a few miles but the fishin was great we caught gazillions from small to about 4lbs.we went the last week of july and the fishin was just beginning to get good and the lakes are from 2acres to probably 7,we didn't need a guide either.
take a portable depth finder this was one tool we didn't take,we missed a lot of good smallie fishin on bear lake, walleye too, because we didn't know what we were fishin.if you want take a trolling motor and battery if you dont want to use a paddle.you can get some lake trout too as a bonus.

I have been going to Canada for the first two weeks of bass season for 18 years. I go to Dog Lake north of Kingston, ONT. We catch 2 to 5 pound fish all day long, large and smallmouth, with a pike or two thrown in. On a good day we will get 75 to 100 each, on a bad day you will get 25 to 35 each. There are several places to stay if you would like more info. You can take your bass boat or rent them at some of the camps.

Amen on the temp changes, I have seen it in the high 30's at night and 55 during the day. I have been there when it was 70's at night and 90's during the day. Where we stay we can be back down to Lake Onterio and the 1000 Islands in about an hour. We fish Dog Lake for the largemouth in the weeds and then Loughborough Lake or 1000 Islands for the Smallmouth.
There is a really nice lodge on Loughborough Lake, where all you have to do is get there and they do the rest.

went to bear lake last june . caught a ton of l.m. on cat lake using silver/white senko's. we had 2 over 5# had a rookie lose a l.m. that i would guess go atleast 7 also on senko. if you go, when you top the hill on the left is a cabin and a lilly pad patch. there is a major drop off shallow then deep then shallow. throww as far across to the shallow work your senko to the drop off and just let it fall twitch every few seconds. the lm desroyed the senkos. i only had 4 pks... ran out in 2 days!!!! also very windy and was very chiily.. take pants and ls shirts!!

    181,
Can you tell me a little more about the lodging in the area. Sounds like a pretty good fishing spot. We would be interested in a lake front cottage and would take our own boat.

    thx

Dog Lake is on the Rideau Canal, a series of lakes all the way from Kingston to Ottawa. There is Melody Lodge on Cranberry Lake, some cottages that I think are call Cranberry Cottages. Seeley's Bay has a couple of fishing resorts. The locks at Jones Falls has some places to stay. All of these you can keep your boat at the dock with electric, and get fuel. We rent a cabin in Battersea on Dog from a private party, but you almost have to be born into one of these to get it.
If you do a search for Rideau Canal, Batersea, Jone's Falls, Seeley's Bay, and Cranberry Lake you should see plenty of places.
Loughborough Lake is right next door to Dog (not connected) and a great place for smallmouth. It is a natural lake, one end shallow with a lot of islands and the lower endstaight as a gun barrel and deep. Dropshot smallies in 35 - 45 ft. of water. A good place on Loughborough is the Holiday Manor
You will be about an hour from the border so you can fish the 1000 Islands and for small mouth until you just don't want to catch another. This all sounds to good to be true, but you just have to see it. Bass Season opens the last Saturday on June, and Canada day is July 1st, those are the only two days that we see many boats.
Rideau Breeze in Seeley's Bay will have a map of the canal system, and Holiday Manor will have one for Loughborough.
You can call me for more info, it is easier for me that typing..lol
    Hope to See ya there,
    Jeff

    Jeff,
I will do some searching on the area(s). Can you go before the last Sat un June and C/R on the bass? Also when you say 1000 islands are you referring to the St Lawrence River?

    thx
