181,
Can you tell me a little more about the lodging in the area. Sounds like a pretty good fishing spot. We would be interested in a lake front cottage and would take our own boat.
thx

Dog Lake is on the Rideau Canal, a series of lakes all the way from Kingston to Ottawa. There is Melody Lodge on Cranberry Lake, some cottages that I think are call Cranberry Cottages. Seeley's Bay has a couple of fishing resorts. The locks at Jones Falls has some places to stay. All of these you can keep your boat at the dock with electric, and get fuel. We rent a cabin in Battersea on Dog from a private party, but you almost have to be born into one of these to get it.
If you do a search for Rideau Canal, Batersea, Jone's Falls, Seeley's Bay, and Cranberry Lake you should see plenty of places.
Loughborough Lake is right next door to Dog (not connected) and a great place for smallmouth. It is a natural lake, one end shallow with a lot of islands and the lower endstaight as a gun barrel and deep. Dropshot smallies in 35 - 45 ft. of water. A good place on Loughborough is the Holiday Manor
You will be about an hour from the border so you can fish the 1000 Islands and for small mouth until you just don't want to catch another. This all sounds to good to be true, but you just have to see it. Bass Season opens the last Saturday on June, and Canada day is July 1st, those are the only two days that we see many boats.
Rideau Breeze in Seeley's Bay will have a map of the canal system, and Holiday Manor will have one for Loughborough.
You can call me for more info, it is easier for me that typing..lol
Hope to See ya there,
Jeff
Jeff,
I will do some searching on the area(s). Can you go before the last Sat un June and C/R on the bass? Also when you say 1000 islands are you referring to the St Lawrence River?
thx
You can not get caught fishing any kind of bass pattern or bait before the season opens. They have conservation zones on some lakes that you can not run your boat in before season. They really protect the spawn.
Yes the river is great, a lot of current but you get in behind some islands and have a ball.
