Stephen has contacted me to tell me that he is sending a picture of a 27 inch LARGEMOUTH Bass caught on the Float and Fly at Dale Hollow.
The fish was weighed on a VERY old scale and weighed in at just over 7 pounds. I AM going to say that the weight is just a TAD low.. Formulas for a fish this size at 16 inch girth show OVER 9 pounds.. Would like to hear your thoughts on the weight of this fish. I will get it posted on the site and on FloatandFly.com when I get the picture.

According the the "length only" calculator I have for Largemouth Bass, a 27 inch Bass weighs 12.55 pounds.
Grumpy
My formula with a 16 inch girth which is small is around 9 pounds.. Hoping to get the picture to be able to get a better idea.

Jim i have a fish that the girth was 18.5 inchs and it weighed over 8.5 lbs--LM bass--just my input :)
I caught a lm at dale in early November and it was 23 1/2" and weighed 6lb 1oz on some very accurate scales. It was thick! If his bass had any gut at all its 9lbs easy.
I have one from green that is 263\4 in and she weighed 9lb 14oz
caught her the 1st week of march and she wasn't egged so she would have been close to 11 i'd say when she was full,in the summer probably 9lbs just my guess.
This time of year I would say around the high 7's to low 8's.
I saw a picture of this fish yesterday, it is on the counter at the One Stop and it is a big fish. Has to be bigger than #7.
Ok guys here you go again. YOU CAN"T GUESS A FISH'S WEIGHT BY IT'S LENGTH !!!! Heck if that was true why use a scale and not a ruler at tournaments... I have weighed and seen literally thousands of fish weighed in the last 25 + years of tournament fishing. I have seen fish barely 19 inches weigh 6 lbs and others 25 + that barely weigh 6...Some fish are just long and skinny while others may appear short and fat. The density of the fish is what adds to the weight. Your can catch 5 fish that are identicle in length and odds are they won't weigh the same. AIN't going to happen so don't think someone giving you a length can automatically result in a weight . AND someone looking at picture and saying how much a fish weighs is hilarious !!!
Right on Spotboy very true man--the girth will tell you more if you had guess, thats the way i see it lol :)
Also the membrane that is the fish's tail fin can play a part in just how long a fish is. You look at some fish and note . The fin at the end of the tail on some fish may be 2- 3 or even longer, that adds to the length but does very little for the weight. Then some fish the fin is almost non existent1 inch or less.but the fish is still a long fish, too many variables to have a "measuring formula" to find the weight.....
