    OHIO RIVER VS CUMBERLAND STRIPERS

So its winter, and the Stripers at Cland are up on the clay mud flats/banks, back end of the creeks, chasing bait at the surface, and hitting jumps. I sometimes fish out of Brandenburg KY, on the Ohio, sometimes out of Greenwood ramp. So, where on the Ohio, would I find this same type Striper pattern? Anybody know of any creeks to hit, or anywhere this would be going on? Is the Striper pattern this time of year on the Ohio the same as C-land? Maybe in the still water behind the Interperative Center, Indiana side? I can get there, but would prefer not. So anywhere else say from Bradenburg ramp clean up north to say just behind the Mc Alpine locks?

Or do I just go hit the warm water discharge at power plants?

Try the warm water discharges. There is one across Caesars and one at the Indiana power plant just down from New Albany, also the Olin (I think) discharge upriver fron the Brandenberg ramp.

From what I remember the colder the day the better so last time I went (4 years ago) it was ten above and did not catch anything.

hey Bob,,,the next time you want to go try the Ohio Stripers,,, I`d love to meet ya and take ya out and show you where and how we catch them up here. It`s nothing like fishing cumberland at all. We don`t have the size on avg but the number will wear ya out. Alot of 2-5`s and then a 10-15 will sneck in on ya. It`s a blast useing 8lb and light rods. And the beauty of it all is all ya need for a tackle box is a brown bag with jigs and white twister tails..LOL plus if ya like I`ll get ya on some sauger and walleye.

    Doug,
Me thinks that sounds good, especially cause I was gonna contact you here shortly and let ya take a look at my pontoon boat for a re-carpet job. Got some stuff going on with the house right now, and will give you a shout. Maybe we kick this thing off with a look at the pontoon for the carpet stuff, and that would be the opportunity for the meet and greet. (and maybe a cold beer if that fits), and from there we can figure out a time to give the river a whirl. Give me just a bit to get some stuff squared away here, and I'll give a land line shout. Know I can't wait long cause the spring rains and goofy river conditions are approaching.

Oh NO you don't Doug, I'm first on the 100 Striper fish day at the river. Don't make me come over there and drag you to the river like I threatened to do so on this site a while back. Bad shoulder and all, it will happen if needed.

    Dearest ELNUTS,
Have I got a deal for you. Why don't all 3 of us go? I mean that way, atleast one of us ought be sober enough by days end to do the designated driver thing to the ramp.

RE: OHIO RIVER VS CUMBERLAND STRIPERS

Well that would be great Bob and Elwood,,, I bet if ELWOOD WOULD BRING HIS BIG OLE TRACKER for the room we`d have a ball. I figure you`d be more confortable in it wouldn`t ya? But I think between the 3 of us somebody,(namely me) will catch some good fish..lOL it`s only going to get better with the colder weather. Oh and Bod,,talking stripers,,,the stripers here in the river as I said don`t get near as big as Cumberland,,but they look totatly different. The stripers in the river are not that lean and long like cumberland. They are fatter, taller, and have they got shoulders on them fighting that current and eating these high proten shad thats everywhere in the river. A 5 lber here fights like a 10 at cumberland, then put a 2-4 mph current too....hang on! So tell you all what, you 2 figure out when you all can go,,,cause I DON`T work. Well i DO BUT IT`S HERE AT THE HOUSE...lol It`s a short drive to the garage and back. Let me know guys,,alway will to go fish.

RE: OHIO RIVER VS CUMBERLAND STRIPERS

I caught a bunch last week in the Little Miami River. I am from Northern Kentucky/Ohio and know exactly what your talking about. They look so much different than the ones you catch at Cumberland or Norris. I could not believe the size of these fish, not the size the girth! I have never posted--but is there a way to post pictures on this site? I caught 15 the first day and every one was at least 3 lbs and the biggest was 10 lbs 12 oz. It was nonstop action- casting in the same spot also. I went for four days straight and every time caught at least a six + pounder. I usually check this site cause I fish alot and want to find the hot spots. Big fan of Dale Hollow, so I always check it out to see how its doing. Been there three weekends so far and camped out every time. Looking to go there in two weeks to try our luck again. Beautiful Lake!! But anyway I want to show these fish- so where do I post?

    Hey fatika

    fatika,
I have family in Cin. and go there often. I was wondering if you would share a couple places to fish from the bank, so when I go to see family I can get a couple casts in. I am catch and release, so no need to worry. They live not to far from the little miami and the miami. Hybrids, stripers, white, anything will do. Thanks a bunch.
