Here is something else you can try. Instead of keeping the line you use for the knocker wadded up in the bottom of the boat find an old baitcaster that you do not use any more and wind the line on it. When the time comes and you need the knocker just press the release on the reel and away she goes. Once the bait is unhung just wind the reel back up. It will save you a lot of tangles and messes.
