Not enough rain to affect the big C, you may find some color way up lake, East end, lower end Gin clear for sure. Word on the street has it that the mighty fly just isn't the ticket yet, water still too warm. Water yesterday recorded at the State dock was almost 54 degrees. All I'm hearing is cranks and jigs, jigs and more jigs. Best fish still coming from deep on those jigs. This is all hear say. I'm looking for info myself because I haven't been down since November. Alot of tourneys there in the winter, so guys get real tightlipped, good luck on getting the straight skinny about the bite. You know the, we caught them 90 foot deep on a pink carolina rigged hula popper crap. Anyway if you go post how you did and I will do the same. If I go, I'm hitting my favorite spots down lake with deep crankbaits, jigs and jerkbaits. If all else fails I may even try the fly who knows, I'm just to dang hyper for that fly I guess it bores me to death, but I've got alot to learn about it to. Good luck if you go it's suppose to be good and cloudy, the brownies like them ole cloudy days.
Im sure some fish have been caught on the fnf but it really hasnt picked up yet, like you said Mark. Most fish are coming very deep b/c of the lake being pulled so rapidly. I was down on thrus. and took my fnf rods. Well, I wanted to throw them both in the lake lol. I dont see how these guys do it....... its SOOOOO boring. I know, I know, there are lots of fish caught on it, and Ive had my rear end spanked several times by guys throwing it. Its just wayyyyyyy too slow and boring for me. I threw it for about an hour and decided to actually start fishing. Ended up with 7 keeper spots and 1 largemouth. All coming on shaky heads about 30-40 ft deep. Good luck. Drew
When it's time it'll be time. It come sooner for some than others.

Not everything that gets wet is pretty, but sometimes it gets pretty wet.
f&f way overated its like any other technique ,it has its time & place but i also think its boring & it should be the last thing to try, when everything has been tried & you are tournament fishing. a good deep water pattern is usually better. jmho
boring?? somebody don't catch many on the fly
i have caught smallmouth over 5 lbs on the f&f method but it to slow for me & i can catch more and bigger fish with other methods , i fish tournaments & i have never been beat by a f&f fisherman and i fish for smallmouth bass .
I couldn't agree more. If you've not won every tourney you've fished in over the winter, you may have been beat by it and didn't know it. I fish tourneys but not in the winter, I just fish....sometimes it's the Fly, sometimes a jig, sometimes a crankbait.. Just another arsenal to catch them sometimes when they won't bite other things.
I think the fly's overrated to...especially for suspended smallies that have been fished to death in colder water...
Not ever had to many good days fishing on the fly...I don't know why I keep fishing it.LOL
Good Luck To ALL..no matter how you catch them.
See yall on the water and will post after tomorrows tourney,,

I am going down with my uncle and some of his buddys, they are doing the FnF thing but I am not. I told him Im taking the old reliable jig and fish on. It will probualy be boring for me since their FnF and Im jigging and cranking, I guess Ill just fish the same spot over and over until they move. It should be a good day with the clouds and all. I will post results when I get back.
Like I said lol, Im not afraid to admit it.... Ive been beaten several times by the fnf. If you haven't come down to c-land and fish some of the tournaments I fish this winter. I promise you, it'll happen lol. I remember last winter in the opens at c-land. We were cathing fish on a jig pretty good. Several weeks in a row we came in with 15-18lbs. The week we had 18lbs we didnt even draw a check because of the fnf fishermand. Namely, Bill Smith. Given that the water was down to around the 47 degree mark it is expected. But, I must agree with the others, just too boring for me. I may have to get Billy to go with me one day and he'll have to come to the house the night before and take all my other rods out of the boat but the fnf. For a day of nothing but the fnf I would have to bring a radio and the captains chair lol. Drew
"i have never been beat by a f&f fisherman and i fish for smallmouth bass "
Not knowing makes us say things that make others laugh...
I guarantee you when the time is right like last Jan-Feb on Cumberland, you'll have to eat those words.
BAHABAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
i caught 6 sm yesterday that went 25lbs & 9ozs -the 5 best were 22 lbs 3 ozs . i believe the F&F has been blown up as the cure all for s.m. bass fishing, not all sm do the same thing at the same time . i have fished for smallmouth for over thirty years & i have caught plenty of sm on the F&F but i stand by what i said it is not agood method for me in tournaments. each year is different & you have to figure out what they want & where they are at,the alewives in our area lakes have had a impact on sm bass locations. so keep throwing that fly & believe that all the sm in the lake are at that depth you have the fly at, this year is agood example of that , if you enjoy F&F fishing thats fine but you will not win many tournaments with it. jmho
