line twist on a spinning reel?

put the filler spool on the floor label up put tension on the line with your thumb and forefinger, take 10 or 15 turns of the handle, stop and lower the rod tip, if the line twists turn the spool over label works most of the time. all the tips are very good, hope it helps

I put my spool of line in a tennis shoe, spool straight up and down, not flat on the floor. Make sure your line is coming off the bottom of the spool ,not off the top like a baitcaster. Been using spinning reels for long time. I use to lay it flat on floor and flip it over when line starts twisting. NOW I do it this way and have zero problems. I also use a soft cloth and spray reel magic or kvd line conditioner hold my line as I reel it on the spool. It gets the chalk off the line, that comes from the factory. Don't over fill your reel! That just makes a mess. I promise you this works better than any other way. MAKE SURE THE LINE IS COMING OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE SPOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you fish any bait make sure it is on the hook straight. This can also cause line twist. GOOD LUCK!!! :-)

I was having all kinds of trouble with line twist, as Redneckshadrap can attest. I tried spooling the line as directed, letting line out behind the boat, walking it across the driveway, reel magic, etc. Finally, I figured out that it had more to do with where my rod tip was at the end of the cast. I was finishing my casts with the rod tip up high in order to try to get as much distance as posssible on the cast. I found out that if I would finish the cast with the rod tip parallel or below parallel to the water, I was no longer getting loops or twist in the line. There may have been some other factor at work, but since I started really concentrating on "finishing low", I have had hardly any loop or twist. Let me know if it works for you.

If you point the reel at the spool of line and watch which way the reel turns (clockwise or counterclockwise) and the make sure that the spool of line is turning the same direction you should be OK. Just make sure that the reels arbor and the new spool of line's arbor are both facing each other and in the same plane. (Geometry Plane of space). A plane is defined as the space that goes though three different points on space. Get all three points aligned on both spools in the same plane direction. Then you will be OK.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but I always close the bail manually after a cast. It's become automatic for me to close the bail and pull the line away from the spool a little in one smooth motion. Many times a loop is created when you close the bail on slack line using the auto close feature on most spinning reels. When you wind a loop up on the spool, the next cast can create a real mess.

Also the best line I've found as far as loops is Berkely Ironsilk. It's not as prone to twist loops, and they come out of it much better than regular mono.

Really good tips here and a I use alot of them, I also have started using Kevin VanDam's line and lure conditioner and I love the stuff it's great. Cuts back memory and increases casting distance and it's not a silicone base so you won't spook fish with it.

BJE, I will have to try that because i believe my rod tip is high when i finish the cast and i always close the bail manualy, it just became a habbit after using spinning reels for a while.i dont ever have a problem with baitcasters though. i cant recall having a backlash or loop and knots on any of mine for well over a year.
Heck BIGGW may be right, time to go back to the basics.LOL

I never have a propblem with baitcaster's either, and they are supposed to be more prone to loops and backlashes. Let me know if it works.

Here's a tip when you get a coil or loop on your spinning reel. Loosen your drag all the way and keep your bail closed. Then pull the line out and let the spool unwind. The loop always comes out.

I know this topic got beat to death, but I tried this string and it was awesome, especially concerning line twist. The box it comes in is for spooling(660yds). It has a special hole on the bottom for spinning reels and one on the side for bait casters, and a place to cut your line on top. I just used it and I didn't have all that line twist like I normally get when I first spool a reel.
